However, for a long time, due to man-made cutting and utilization, the complete natural Gleditsia population can not be found, only the residual sparse forest or scattered wood, the population is in an endangered state. Gleditsia sinensis is a tall tree with a full fruiting period of 200 years. Its characteristics and values are mainly as follows: first, drought-resistant and water-saving, well-developed roots, in the west and north of the annual precipitation 300mm or so.

1. Drought-tolerant, water-saving and well-developed roots can be used as shelterbelts and soil and water conservation forests in the western and northern areas with annual precipitation 300mm, and it is also one of the preferred tree species for building grassland shelterbelts.

Second, heat-resistant, cold-resistant, pollution-resistant, is a good tree species for urban and rural landscape forests and road greening, but also an important hedge tree species.

Third, it has the advantages of nitrogen fixation, wide adaptability, strong stress resistance and high comprehensive value. it is the optimal tree species for natural protection forest project and returning farmland to forest project. it can improve soil better, and mixing with pine can inhibit the occurrence and development of pine caterpillar.

Fourth, the growth is fast, the wood physical property is good, is hard, is the excellent craft wood and the honey source tree species.

Fifth, the fruits and seeds of Gleditsia are rich in nutrients and plant gum, which can be used as feed, and their yield and livestock absorption are better than soybeans, and they are natural green raw materials for medicine, food, detergents, beverages, health products and so on.

Saponins contained in Gleditsia sinensis are triterpenes and oligosaccharides, which can resist inflammation, anti-ulcer, anti-pathological changes, anti-cancer and improve the immune function of AIDS. They are bioactive substances with great development potential.

7. China's annual demand for plant gum is more than 40, 000 tons, but the annual output of our country is less than 3000 tons, which is far from meeting the demand of the market. Besides using related substances that consume a lot of grain production as substitutes, it also costs 400 million yuan to import guar gum from abroad every year. The gum isolated from Gleditsia seeds by Chinese scientists has similar colloidal properties to imported guar gum, and the gum content of Gleditsia seeds is as high as 30%-40%, which is much higher than that of herbaceous plants.

The wide use of Gleditsia has attracted the attention of many countries in the world.

In recent years, acacia gardens have been built in the United States, Canada, Brazil, France, Italy, Australia and Eastern European countries, which cultivate Gleditsia sinensis like planting fruit trees, and the cultivation of Gleditsia sinensis is becoming more and more varieties. After nearly 10 years of investigation, field experiment and analysis, the relevant experts from the Forestry Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Forestry Sciences have found out the distribution of Gleditsia sinensis in northern China, constructed the core population in the northern producing area of Gleditsia sinensis, and selected four excellent germplasm. and carried out off-site preservation and seed preservation at low temperature. Gleditsia sinensis which is in an endangered state in China is expected to gain new vitality.
