Last Updated: 2024/11/05, The estrus of the female fox shows that the vulva is covered by pubic hair during the resting period, which is not easy to find; during estrus, the pubic hair is separated due to vaginal swelling. The estrus period of female fox is short, mating is difficult, and the timing of adaptation is also difficult to grasp, especially the empty rate of silver-black fox is higher. In order to improve the reproduction rate, it is necessary to master the oestrus law of female foxes and carry out mating or artificial insemination at the right time. The estrus of female foxes can be divided into three stages: the first stage: the clitoris begins to swell, clitoris enlarges, tends to be heterosexual and sexually excited, and generally continues.

In order to improve the reproduction rate, it is necessary to master the oestrus law of female foxes and carry out mating or artificial insemination at the right time.

The estrus of female foxes can be divided into three stages:

The first stage: the clitoris began to swell, clitoris enlarged, began to tend to the opposite sex and sexual excitement, generally lasted 2-3 days, some lasted 6-7 days.

The second stage: the clitoris of the estrus female fox is obviously swollen, the clitoris is almost round, and the clitoris of the blue fox is red. In this stage, the silver and black fox lasts for 1-2 days, and the blue fox lasts for 2-3 days. The sexual excitement of the female fox is further enhanced, and take the initiative to approach the male fox.

The third stage (also known as sexual period): female foxes accept mating period, with oval vulva, valgus, reduced elasticity, dark color and mucus secretion. This stage lasts 2-3 days for silver-black foxes and 3-5 days for blue foxes. The whole estrus duration of female foxes was 5-10 days and sexual desire period was 2-3 days for silver-black foxes, and 9-14 days and 3-5 days for blue foxes.

The female fox is very excited in the third stage, chasing the male fox, tilting its tail to one side and accepting the male fox to climb and mate. The vulva changes of young female foxes are usually not very obvious, and the whole duration of oestrus is longer than that of postpartum foxes.

The estrus identification of foxes can be done in the following three ways:

(1) the external reproductive organs are examined for vaginal swelling, valgus, pink or dark red, clitoris exposed and secreting white or yellow mucus, which is the sexual desire period of the female fox and should be mated or inseminated for 2-3 days in a row; the vaginal contraction, swelling and secretion are reduced, which is the end of estrus or the end of estrus.

(2) observe sexual behavior from the outside when the female fox loses appetite, or does not eat feed, moves restlessly, walks back and forth in the cage, and urinates more; when it comes to the sexual desire period, the female fox is extremely restless and constantly makes a hasty courtship cry, this is the time to mate. It was not until the later stage of estrus that the activity of the female fox became normal.

(3) in order to improve the conception rate and conception rate, test estrus should be carried out regularly in addition to checking external genitalia and observing sexual behavior, especially for young female foxes with no obvious estrus, which can avoid mismatch and stimulate female foxes to estrus ahead of time.
