For octopus fans, these days are definitely worth celebrating! Researchers have just released their video of a glowing giant squid (Architeuthis) glowing in the deep sea (see Deep Sea Squid surfaced on Feb. 27, edition A2 of the Science Times), and now they have captured the first living specimen of an adult giant octopus (Mesonychoteuthis).

A fishing boat operating in the southern waters of New Zealand recently caught the 10-meter-long, 450-kilogram male octopus, which unfortunately died shortly after it was towed onto the fishing boat, Science magazine reported online. Biologists want to know more about the giant octopus's eyes, the largest known, and to study the species's mysterious reproductive system.
