When using the diet, it is required that the nutrients contained in each part of the feed for chickens are balanced and the same, otherwise the chickens will be malnourished, lack of disease or poisoning, even if your diet formula is very scientific and the feeding conditions are very good, still can not get satisfactory feeding effect. Therefore, the feed must be stirred evenly to meet the nutritional needs of chickens. There are two methods of feed mixing: mechanical mixing and manual mixing. As long as they are used properly, satisfactory results can be obtained.

Mechanical mixing: using a mixer. There are two commonly used mixers: vertical and horizontal. The vertical mixer is suitable for mixing powdered feed with water content less than 14%. If the water content is too much, it is not easy to mix evenly. This kind of mixer has the advantages of low power, low price and convenient maintenance, but it takes a long time (usually 10 minutes per batch). It is suitable for professional households and small chicken farms. The horizontal mixer can mix the feed evenly in humid areas or when viscous ingredients (such as grease) are added to the feed. The machine has strong mixing capacity and short mixing time, each batch is 3-4 minutes. It is mainly used in some feed processing plants. No matter what kind of mixer is used, the loading quantity should be appropriate in order to mix evenly. Too much or too little loading can not guarantee the uniformity, and it is generally appropriate to charge 60% to 80% of the capacity. Mixing time is also an important factor related to mixing quality, mixing time is too short, the quality can not be guaranteed, but it is not the longer the better, stirring too long, so that the feed is evenly mixed and then the phenomenon of delamination is caused by excessive mixing.

Manual mixing: this method is the main means of feed mixing when raising chickens in the family. When mixing, we must be careful and patient to prevent some trace components from stacking, caking, uneven mixing, affecting the feeding effect.

When mixing by hand, special attention should be paid to some trace components which account for a small proportion in the diet but will seriously affect the feeding effect, such as salt and various additives. If the mixing is uneven, the light one will affect the feeding effect, and in serious cases, it will cause disease, poisoning, and even death of the chickens. For this kind of trace components, they should be fully crushed at first, there can be no caking phenomenon, the lumps can not be mixed evenly, and poisoning may occur after being eaten by chickens. Secondly, due to the small amount of these ingredients, they can not be directly added to the bulk feed for mixing, but should be pre-mixed. The practice is to take 10% to 20% concentrate (preferably a large proportion of energy feed, such as corn, wheat bran, etc.) as a carrier, stack separately, press the latter spade of feed on the feed laid down by the previous spade, that is, keep it on the top of the feed, let the feed flow around along the central point into a cone, so that all kinds of feed can be mixed. The purpose of mixing evenly can be achieved by repeating for 3 or 4 times, and the premix can be made. Finally, the premix was added to the whole feed and mixed with the same method for 3 or 4 times, the goal could be achieved.

When mixing by hand, only through such multi-level grading mixing can the quality of the matching diet be guaranteed, and the method of turning or stirring the feed in place is not advisable.
