Nine reminders of cotton management in the later stage

Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Now cotton has entered the boll opening stage, which is the last growth stage. Throughout September, the upper cotton bolls continued to grow and enrich. There are still more than 50 days left between now and the harvest in late October. If the management is relaxed, it is still possible to suffer heavy losses. (1) ideologically, we should not relax the management in the later stage, especially if we do not think that if there are not too many cotton peaches, we are no longer willing to invest in high yield. If you can keep more than 40,000 cotton peaches per mu and let it grow up and open well, you can harvest four or five hundred jin of seed cotton per mu. I downloaded 6 new cotton varieties under national examination in our province.

Cotton has now entered the boll opening stage, which is the last stage of growth. The upper bolls continued to grow and fill throughout September. There are still more than 50 days between now and the harvest in late October. If the management is relaxed, it may still suffer serious losses.

(1) Ideologically, we should not relax our management in the later stage, especially if we think that there are not many cotton bolls and we cannot produce high yields, we will not be willing to invest again. If you can keep more than 40,000 cotton bolls per mu and let them grow well, you can harvest four or five hundred catties of seed cotton per mu. I downloaded 6 new varieties of cotton approved by the state in our province. Their yield performance in the national regional test and production test is 4,500 jin seed cotton per mu. The experimental site cannot be said to be reliable, and the management cannot be said to be poor. It should be said that 4,500 jin is the current medium upper level. If we can reach 50,000 peaches per mu, we have more hope. Many people are prone to make the better they love to control, the worse they are, the more discouraged they are. At the best, they regret not relaxing their later management and losing all the output they have seen. This is very important.

(2) For premature senescence cotton fields caused by potassium deficiency, if there are still standing green leaves in the upper part or some cotton plants with light premature senescence, 2% potassium sulfate fertilizer solution can be sprayed again.

(3) For cotton fields that are still dense, large leaves and empty branches of the middle and lower main stems can be removed to make the cotton fields ventilated and transparent, which is conducive to the water loss and cracking of mature cotton bolls, and reduces the increase of rotten peaches due to continuous rainfall.

(4) Conditional picking and peeling of black cotton bolls can reduce losses.

(5) Cotton plants that fall or bend due to more bolls in the middle and upper parts can no longer be lifted up. It can take one or two minutes to tie them up. It can save twenty or thirty cotton bolls. It is worth it.

(6) In September, it may also suffer from the damage of whitefly (some commonly known as whitefly), which can cause all cotton leaves to dry up and cause yield reduction. Don't wait until the insect infestation to prevent and control, found dense place has insect activity to start using medicine, after testing, with bifenthrin control effect is better.

(7) In general, the buds and tips that have not yet bloomed will be removed by September 5 at the latest, so as to accelerate the growth and development of the upper young bolls and minimize the flowers after frost.

(8) In September, the air humidity becomes smaller and the soil evaporation increases. After this, there is no rainfall. Autumn drought may also occur in late September. If there are more cotton bolls in the upper part, watering is more convenient. It can be irrigated once. Otherwise, it is a pity that the yield is reduced due to drought. This article is suitable for high-yield fields.

(9) For cotton fields that need ethephon to ripen, it is not suitable to spray too much pesticide for the first time, let alone paraquat, etc., until around October 1, depending on the weather and the density of cotton fields, it is advisable to spray two times to ripen. After the first application, most cotton leaves will gradually turn yellow to promote the transfer of nutrients to cotton bolls, and then the petioles will produce detached leaves. Do not use the pesticide to dry the cotton leaves once; The second application will promote the cotton bolls to crack and open.
