The "real scene" refers to the landscape composed of trees, stones, soil, water, grass, moss and their combination in the basin, which is the realistic scene within the scope of the basin space, while the "virtual scene" is outside the "real scene", that is, the artistic realm of "scenery outside the basin". The space of the real scene is limited, while the space of the virtual scene is infinite. The so-called "see the big in the small", "thousands of miles away", "one peak is too China thousand fathom, one spoonful just ten thousand miles" and so on, refers to the two kinds of spatial relationship shown by bonsai. "small", "close at hand", "one peak" and "one spoon" are realistic spaces, while "big", "thousands of miles", "thousand fathom" and "thousands of miles" are art spaces. The real space is the material space, while the artistic space is the imaginative space. The reality valve is fixed, and the art space is uncertain, which is determined by the author and viewer according to their own artistic accomplishment and aesthetic imagination. The same work can have different artistic spaces.

The relationship between "real scene" and "virtual scene" in bonsai is a condition for each other, there is no real scene, the virtual scene loses its material foundation, and without it, the real scene becomes a pile of dead trees and stones.
