Last Updated: 2024/11/06, Although jujube has strong drought resistance and a large amount of rainfall is disadvantageous to jujube production, the growth and development of jujube will also be adversely affected if drought and lack of water. Jujube trees require a relative soil water content of 65% Mel 70% in the growing season. Especially during the rapid growth period of fruit before flowering and hard seed, it is very sensitive to soil moisture. When the soil relative water content is less than 55% or more than 80%, the growth of young fruit is hindered, and the flower and fruit drop is serious. During the slow growth period after the hard core of the fruit, when the relative water content decreased to 30%-50%, the pulp cells lost turgor and became soft.

In the northern jujube area, the early growth of jujube is in the dry season, so more attention should be paid to irrigation.

I. Irrigation period

1. Budding water: irrigation before sprouting is beneficial to the growth of sprouting, jujube head and jujube hanging, flower bud differentiation and improvement of flowering quality.

2. Flowering water: jujube flowering is very sensitive to water, this is because flowering is in the period of rapid growth of various organs, the competition for water and nutrients is fierce, and jujube pollen germination needs more humidity. Lack of water will lead to poor pollination and fertilization and reduce the rate of fruit setting. At the same time, the flowering period of jujube is in the dry and windy season in the north, such as lack of water, the phenomenon of "scorched flowers" is quite serious, resulting in a large number of fallen flowers. Therefore, flowering is the key period for jujube trees to need water. Irrigation at flowering stage not only has a high fruit setting rate, but also develops rapidly.

3. Fruit-setting water: in the period of rapid growth of young fruit in early July, combined with topdressing irrigation can promote cell division and growth, which is the basis of fruit enlargement. The lack of water in this period inhibited the growth of fruit and reduced the yield and reduced the quality of jujube fruit.

4. Overwintering water: watering the soil before freezing can increase the overwintering cold resistance of jujube. The specific watering period and times should be adjusted to local conditions. In mountainous areas and places without watering conditions, multiple ploughing should be carried out to store water and preserve soil moisture, so as to solve the problem of water demand for jujube growth and fruit.
