As a feed, rice bran is mainly the by-product of rice processing into rice, and its nutritional value varies greatly due to different processing methods. According to the different rice processing methods, rice bran can be divided into rice husk (ricehulls), rice bran (ricebran) and rice bran (ricemillby-product). Rice (rice) is one of the main foods for human beings, and it is seldom used to feed livestock.

Rice chaff is the husk (glume) powder removed from rice when processing brown rice, its amount is about 20% of the quality of rice, 44.5% of crude fiber, of which lignin 21.4%, digestible energy (bovine 2.006MJ/ woman, pig 0.907MJ/k) is very low, and digestible protein is negative, so it is pure roughage.

Rice bran is a by-product of brown rice (brownrice) refined into milled rice (polishedrice). It consists of seed coat, aleurone layer, embryo and a small amount of endosperm, accounting for 6%-8% of rice. Rice bran can not only be used as feed, but also can be extracted from rice bran because of its high fat content. Unoiled rice bran is not easy to be preserved because of its high content of unsaturated fat.

There are two types of rice bran, one is a mixture of rice husk (rice husk), chopped rice (brokenrice) and rice bran separated from milled rice by one-time processing, which accounts for about 25% of rice, its nutritional value is between rice bran and rice bran, and the digestible energy of dry matter is 6.730MJ/kg for sheep and 3.846~5.894MJ/kg for pigs, so it should belong to roughage. The other is the artificial mixing of rice bran and rice chaff, which can be divided into 19 bran, 28 bran, Panax notoginseng bran and so on. The composition and nutritional value of rice bran depend on the ratio of rice bran to rice bran. The higher the proportion of rice bran is, the worse the nutritional value is. The bran with high proportion of rice chaff should belong to roughage.

It is difficult to preserve rice bran with high oil content, and the rice bran extracted from oil is defatted rice bran (defattedricebran).
