Turtles can be divided into dry turtles, aquatic turtles and semi-aquatic turtles. Dry turtles live on land or mountain areas all the year round, aquatic turtles live in rivers and lakes, ditches, streams and farmland, and semi-aquatic turtles live in the environment where land and water meet. Under natural conditions, turtles are not easy to choke on water or die because of asphyxiation, but under artificial feeding conditions, death caused by choking water in the lungs of turtles due to different breeds or environmental conditions, or artificial improper methods, occurs from time to time in the farm.

First, the cause of choking water

1. Artificial breeding ponds are often too small, if the water quality becomes worse and new water is not injected in time, the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water decreases due to low air pressure in the high temperature season; or when the pool water is too deep and the dissolved oxygen in the lower part of the pool water is too little, the turtle lurks in the anoxic water for too long, does not come to the surface in time or comes ashore for breath, and so on, will cause the turtle lungs to choke water.

two。 After the turtle loses water or is dehydrated during transportation, if the tortoise is thrown sharply into the pool water, it is easy to make the tortoise burst into the water and choke. Sometimes the water temperature is too low in the cold winter, such as putting the tortoise into the water quickly.

3. Weak turtles and sick turtles can easily cause choking in the lungs if they are not carefully stocked.

After the turtle suffers from choking, it often sinks to the bottom and cannot move, and some float on the surface, showing weakness of the limbs and protruding out of the body. Anatomy showed that the lungs were filled with water, the volume increased, and the blood was dark purple due to hypoxia.

II. Methods for prevention and treatment of choking water

1. At ordinary times, the water level of the pool should be basically fixed, and the water level should be increased or decreased according to the needs of different turtle species, different regions and different seasons, and should not be sharply increased or lowered. If it is enough for ordinary turtles to maintain a water level of 60 centimeters and 100 centimeters, do not go too deep.

3. Breeders should walk gently when patrolling the pond or taking bait, first walk a long distance, so that the turtles on the shore slowly climb into the water, so as not to suddenly drive the turtles into the water and choke.

4. When the summer weather is muggy, the pool water should be changed regularly and in time to keep the water quality fresh. Turtle pond should be appropriately large, such as the pool is too small, the pool water should be shallow, in order to increase the amount of dissolved oxygen. 6. Sick turtles and weak turtles, if they want to be released into the pond, they must be temporarily reared in shallow water for a period of time, and then transferred to the pond after being normal.

7. The turtles that choke on water should be rescued in time. You can put the tortoise head down, make the neck fall, stretch its limbs rhythmically several times, force the water out of its lungs, and then put the turtle in a ventilated and cool place to gradually wake up. You can also hold the turtle tightly with your hands, throw it down a few times, throw the water out of your lungs, and then blow a few breaths into the turtle's nostrils with your mouth, which can generally be rescued.
