Oleander is an ornamental plant, which is often planted by local farmers. According to relevant data, oleander contains cardiotonic glycosides, which has stimulating effect, which can cause hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, increase the concentration of sodium ion and calcium ion and decrease the concentration of potassium ion in myocardial cells. as a result, a series of pathological phenomena such as atrial fibrillation and arrhythmia occur in animals.

I. morbidity

In July 2002, a 3-year-old yellow cow in Gumudi Town, Miquan City, ate oleander in the courtyard. 2 hours later, the cow developed abdominal pain, restlessness, abdominal review, kicking and other symptoms. Clinical examination showed that the cow was depressed in spirit, conjunctival cyanosis, salivation, arched back, muscle tremor in scapula and elbow, breathing force, 40 times per minute, weak rumen sound, once per minute, mild flatulence, thin feces and mucus. The heart sound was enhanced by auscultation, 36 beats per minute, arrhythmia and body temperature 37.6 ℃.

II. Treatment

1.10% potassium chloride 100ml, 10% glucose 1000 ml, intravenous injection, twice a day.

2.0.1% potassium permanganate 2000 ml, starch 100g (made into paste) oral administration.

3. Compound sulfamethoxazole injection 30ml intravenous injection, twice a day.

4. Use 0.5% dysentery net injection 300 ml intravenous injection twice a day.

After the above treatment, the symptoms of muscle spasm and abdominal pain were relieved on the second day, and the upper treatment was continued (potassium permanganate was not used). On the third day, the spirit was good, the stool was close to normal, the rumen was no longer inflated, began to ruminate, the body temperature was 38.2 ℃, the heartbeat was 51 beats per minute, and the heart rate was mild. After another treatment, the treatment was stopped. After 10 days of follow-up, the cow has fully recovered.

Third, the following points should be paid attention to during treatment.

1. Potassium ion supplement and glucose supplement should be carried out at the same time, because glucose can promote the entry of potassium ion into the cell, increase the concentration of potassium ion in cardiomyocytes, and relieve the symptoms caused by potassium deficiency.

two。 Calcium preparation can not be used in the treatment of the disease, because calcium can enhance the toxicity of cardiotonic glycosides.

3. Administration of potassium permanganate can oxidize cardiotonic glycosides and make them lose their toxicity. Starch paste can protect intestinal mucosa, reduce the irritation of poison to the intestine, and prevent poison from continuing to absorb.
