Ophiopogon japonicus

Ophiopogon is fascicled with rhizome and spindle-shaped tuberous root at the end of the whisker root. Leaves linear, 10 to 15 cm long; pedicels drawn from the leaves, racemes scattered, spike-shaped, bisexual flowers, perianth 6, flowers at the beginning of the light purplish red, gradually become white, planted in the forest is very spectacular. The florescence is from July to August and the fruiting period is from September to October. It originated in North and Northwest China, and also distributed in Japan and Vietnam. Resistant to cold and drought, like semi-overcast environment. The requirement of soil is not strict, pastoral soil and sandy loam can grow well and can survive the winter in open field in North China.
