Bonsai material-Sabina bonsai
Ground cypress generally has no upright trunk, dense branches and leaves, distinct layers, small green leaves, evergreen four seasons, elegant posture, long life, easy to shape. Sabina vulgaris has strong adaptability and can grow well in the south and north, so it is a good material for making bonsai.
1. Tree making
Sabina vulgaris branches are thin and long, and soft, suitable for cliff type, curved dry type, horizontal dry type and a variety of birds, animals and other animal forms. Cypress modeling should be more flat binding, less pruning, flat binding material can be used wire, can also be used brown wire, the general outline of flat binding completed, according to the needs of modeling, should be short twigs or cut off from the base. Summer and early autumn are the exuberant seasons for the growth of Sabina vulgaris, and the sap is easy to overflow after pruning, which is disadvantageous to growth, so styling pruning should be carried out in late winter and early spring. Sabina vulgaris is generally bound for about 2 years before it can be finalized, and the branches are often restored to their original state if they are removed prematurely. After shaping, the wire should be removed in time, because the banding time is too long, the wire is too deep into the branch, which is not only disadvantageous to the plant growth, but also the trace is not beautiful, it takes about two years to eliminate the trace. The branches and leaves of Sabina vulgaris bonsai are mostly processed into clouds or natural ones.
two。 Planting and using pot
Sabina vulgaris like sunlight can also bear shade, strong adaptability, not strict requirements on the soil, can grow in neutral, slightly acidic, slightly alkaline soil, but preferably fertile, moist, well drained, humus-rich soil, culture soil can be made of 2amp 3 humus soil and 1amp 3 sand soil. It is better to plant from March to April. To choose different bowls according to different shapes, the cliff type should use purple sand cylinder basin, and leave the main root longer appropriately, in order to bear the pulling force of most branches and leaves hanging out of the basin; curved dry type can use oval purple sand basin or glazed pottery basin; oblique dry type, horizontal dry type with rectangular purple sand shallow basin is better to show the graceful appearance of the tree trunk. The roots of the latter two shapes should be cut shorter, leaving more lateral roots and whisker roots, and the root cut, in order to prevent the invasion of bacteria, apply a layer of erythromycin eye ointment.
3. Maintenance and management
(1) venue. After the cypress on the fine basin, there is less soil in the basin, and some roots are close to the basin wall, which is easy to damage the roots after sunlight exposure, which is disadvantageous to plant growth. Therefore, in the hot summer, the ground cypress bonsai in the fine basin should be placed under the shade with certain light, maintain a certain humidity, sprinkle water to the ground when the climate is dry, increase the humidity of the microclimate, and have good ventilation conditions. Open-air maintenance can be placed in spring and autumn. Potted plants in the north, late autumn or early winter should be moved into the indoor winter in time.
(2) watering. The cypress likes the humid environment, but is afraid of waterlogging. In summer, water should be often watered to keep the basin soil moist. When the weather is hot, water should be sprayed to the leaves in the morning and evening. You should water less in winter.
(3) fertilization. The ground cypress bonsai in the upper basin should be cooked with thin liquid fertilizer. In its growing season, liquid fertilizer can be applied every 20 days or so. Do not fertilize too much, or it will make the branches grow steeply and affect the shape of the tree.
(4) plastic surgery. Ground cypress in the maintenance process, sometimes grow too long branches, destroy the tree shape, should be cut off in time. In order to make the branches and leaves short and dense, it is necessary to properly pick the heart to facilitate the growth of lateral branches.
(5) prevent diseases and insect pests. Sabina vulgaris bonsai diseases and insect pests are less, so rust and red spiders should be controlled.

Bonsai material selection
The selection of tree bonsai material mainly refers to the selection of tree species and pile appearance. The choice of tree species should not only consider the factors suitable for making bonsai, but also fully consider the aesthetic interest and personal hobby of the producer or appreciator (consumer). Because everyone has different levels of education, appreciation habits, and aesthetics, some like pine and cypress trees that are evergreen all the year round, some prefer deciduous trees that are rich in seasonal changes, and some prefer colorful flower and fruit trees. Therefore, the selection of bonsai tree species must first be people-oriented.
