Snakes are wild carnivores that eat meat but not vegetarians, mainly preying on a variety of small living animals, and some snakes also eat some dead animals or eggs. When hungry, most snakes have the habit of devouring the same kind or other species of snakes, especially adult snakes will devour their cubs. Due to the different living environments of snakes, most wild snakes like to eat all kinds of birds, snakes, rodents, small beasts or all kinds of bird eggs. However, under the condition of artificial culture, it is difficult to "buy all" these game, so we can only feed some bait according to its main food habits, such as frogs, mice, fish, poultry eggs and swimming snakes in the water. Due to the fact that farmed snakes are not as rich in natural bait as wild snakes, in the process of feeding snakes, we must understand the eating habits of the snakes and put in their favorite food to meet the needs of their camp as much as possible.

Do snakes eat a lot?

At present, there is no more complete and accurate statistical data on how much snakes eat. The food intake of the same kind of snakes is different because of their different size, growth period and physical condition. However, it is generally believed that during the peak period of snake activity, that is, from August to October every year, their monthly food intake is about their own weight. For example, a red chain snake weighing about 350 grams can swallow 250 tons of 350 grams of bait per month, which is equivalent to two big toads. Therefore, in the peak eating season of snakes, we should prepare enough bait that snakes like to eat, which is the key to raising snakes. The feeding cycle and amount of some snakes are shown in Table 7, and feeding other snake species can also be analogous.
