Brief introduction of Special Rice varieties

In recent years, the Department of Agronomy of South China Agricultural University has bred several kinds of special rice, mainly fragrant rice, fragrant black rice, Hongzhan rice and so on.

1. Wanxianxiangzhan No. 1: Wanxian Xiangzhan is a variety bred by crossing between Wanlixiang and Japonica Indica 89. It is a high quality fragrant rice with mid-maturity in early season. It was planted in Guangzhou in the early season, the whole growth period was about 125 days, the plant height was 90 cm, the plant type was moderate, the tillering ability was moderate, 200 grains per panicle, with a certain fragrance, good food taste, and good cooked color in the later stage. Generally, the yield per mu is 400 Mu and 450 kg, and the high yield can reach more than 500 kg.

2. Huanong red rice: Huanong red rice is bred by crossing Fengqi red rice with Huaquan 15, which belongs to early production and late maturity. The variety is about 95 cm high, moderate plant type, strong tillering ability, large panicle and many grains, 1000-grain weight about 24 grams, good resistance, but low seed setting rate, general yield of about 350 kg per mu.

This variety should be sowed early and planted early, nylon film can be used to raise seedlings where possible, and more organic fertilizer, topdressing and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer should be applied to improve the seed setting rate.

3. Zaohongnuo: Zaohongnuo is one of the rare medicinal farm varieties. After purification, rejuvenation and improvement, its plant height, plant type and ripening period are neat and consistent, and its species character has been greatly improved. The grain husk is crimson red, the rice is milky white, the plant height is about 100 cm, but the stem is tough, not easy to lodge, the tillering ability is weak, about 100 grains per panicle, the seed setting rate is high, the general yield is 250ml / mu, the cold resistance is strong, and the blast resistance is slightly weaker.

4. Tianhe fragrant black rice: Tianhe fragrant black rice is bred by the cross between fragrant rice and black glutinous rice. It is a late-maturing species in the early season, with a growth period of about 130 days in the early season, 120 days in the late season, a plant height of 85 kg, compact plant type, narrow leaves, medium tillering ability, about 110 grains per panicle, 85% seed setting rate, slender rice grains, black seed coat, better rice quality, fragrance and medium resistance to rice blast.

Main points of cultivation:

1. Pay attention to early sowing and early insertion

2. Increase the planting density, increase the application of organic fertilizer and early fertilization to increase the number of effective panicles.

3. The harvest time should be in the mature period, early harvest, low quality, and removal of impurities and mixed white rice before harvest.

4. It is suitable to be cultivated in the late season, but the rice quality in the early season is slightly worse.
