There are five components A, B, C, D and E, which belong to polypeptides with similar basic chemical structure. the clinical applications are mainly polymyxin B and E. Its sulfate is white or yellowish powder and is soluble in water. Function and use: this product has strong antibacterial effect on Gram-negative bacteria, low concentration bacteriostasis, high concentration sterilization, and high efficiency against Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pasteurella multocida.

Polymyxin

Its sulfate is white or yellowish powder and is soluble in water.

Function and use: this product has strong antibacterial effect on Gram-negative bacteria, low concentration bacteriostasis, high concentration sterilization, mainly effective against Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pasteurella aeruginosa, especially Pasteurella aeruginosa. However, it had no effect on Gram-positive bacteria and fungi. Clinically, it is mainly used to treat various infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other Gram-negative bacteria.

Dose and usage: polymyxin E sulfate tablets, specification is 125000 units, 250000 units, (65000 units equivalent to 10 mg), a period of 3 years, poultry oral dose of 30, 000-80, 000 units per kilogram of body weight, 1-2 times a day.

Note: this product has obvious toxicity to the kidney and nervous system, the dose should not be too large, the course of treatment should not be too long; it should not be used with aminoglycoside antibiotics such as gentamicin and streptomycin, otherwise it will enhance its toxicity. This product is not absorbed orally, so it can not be used for the treatment of systemic infectious diseases.
