Anhui-cotton planting area shows restorative growth

In order to understand the crop planting structure of farmers in Anhui Province this year, the Anhui investigation team of the National Bureau of Statistics recently selected 3220 farmers from 31 counties (districts) in the province to carry out a survey of farmers' crop intention. The results show that this year, the total sown area of crops in Anhui Province is basically stable, the area of grain crops continues to increase, the area of cash crops such as rape and medicinal materials decreases greatly, and the area of other crops is basically the same.

In 2006, 3220 farmers owned an area of 21257 mu of arable land and 40223 mu of crop planting area, which was basically stable compared with last year. The proportion of planting structure of food crops, cash crops and other crops has further changed from 79.8519. 32 to 81.53 and 17.64 to 0.83 last year. Among them, the cotton acreage has shown a momentum of growth, which will reach 1978 mu, an increase of 1.36% in real terms over last year. The main reason is that cotton prices rose sharply in 2005, nearly 10 percentage points higher than the previous year, resulting in a restorative growth of cotton acreage this year.

Gansu-estimated cotton planting area of about 1.03 million mu

A comprehensive investigation by the Gansu Provincial Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Department on the planting intention of various cities and states in Gansu Province in 2006 shows that this year, the distribution and structure of crops in Gansu Province are basically stable, the area of grain is stable, the area of cotton, vegetables and tobacco leaves is increasing, and the area of oil crops is decreasing. The summary results show that the cotton area of Gansu Province increased in 2006 and is expected to reach 1.029 million mu, an increase of 6.9% over the previous year.

Hubei-small growth of cotton sowing recovery

The cotton market price rose in 2005, and the comparative benefit of planting cotton was higher, which stimulated the enthusiasm of farmers to plant cotton to a certain extent. However, farmers in cotton areas personally experienced the pressure of double risks of nature and market because of the sharp fluctuation of cotton prices in recent years. For the cotton market trend in 2006, it is more rational and has no intention of greatly expanding the cotton planting area. A survey of 1894 farmers selected from 1894 townships (towns and farms) in 34 counties (cities and districts) in Hubei Province shows that it is initially arranged that the cotton planting area this year will be 9658.5 mu, an increase of 247.1 mu or 2.63% over 2005. According to the analysis and forecast of the agricultural bureaus of 12 centralized cotton-producing cities and provincial directly administered cities, the cotton planting area this year is about 5.8 million mu, an increase of about 9% over the harvest area in 2005, and only about 60% of the highest annual cotton planting area in history.
