Jiuza No.4 (cotton)
Jiuza 4, a new hybrid cotton combination successfully cultivated by Jiucheng Institute of Agricultural Sciences in Anhui Province, was examined and approved by the crop Variety approval Committee of the province on January 11. Experts believe that this variety has good high yield, stress resistance and fiber quality, and is a new combination with great potential to increase yield among the new cotton varieties in Anhui.
Anhui Jiucheng Institute of Agricultural Sciences began the breeding of "Jiuza 4" in 1994. The parents of this variety were purified by self-cross and mixed breeding, and the new combination was selected by cross breeding. The plant of "Jiuza 4" is tall, the growth potential is strong, the heterosis is obvious, and it has certain disease resistance and strong lodging resistance.
This variety has been outstanding in the regional trials of cotton varieties in the province for three consecutive years. In the provincial regional test in 2000, the yield of seed cotton per mu was 226.38 kg, ranking second among all tested varieties and 13.24% higher than that of the control group. In the provincial regional test in 2001, the yield of lint per mu was 123.97 kg, 17.5% higher than that of the control group, and the yield of seed cotton per mu was 291.65 kg higher than that of the control group, 25.7% higher than that of the control group. The yield of lint and seed cotton ranked second among all tested varieties, among which the yields of pre-frost seed and lint per mu were 237.87 kg and 101.00 kg respectively, ranking first among all tested varieties. In the provincial production test in 2002, the seed cotton yield of this variety was 267.55 kg per mu, 25.6% higher than that of the control group, and the lint yield per mu was 112.4 kg higher than that of the control group, 19.3% higher than that of the control group.

Recent emergency management measures for cotton
The light and heat conditions in the early part of this year are favorable for the growth of cotton, but the recent low temperature and light, overcast and rainy weather are extremely disadvantageous to the growth of cotton, and the shedding of buds and bolls increases obviously. At present, it is a critical period for the formation of cotton yield. in order to obtain high cotton yield, the following management measures should be strengthened: first, to apply topping fertilizer and foliar spraying fertilizer for cotton fields with more bolls and premature senescence, urea 5-7.5 kg per 667 square meters, foliar fertilizer can also be applied in combination with pest control. II. Rational pruning and Harmony
