Last Updated: 2024/11/09, Rotavirus infection is mainly an intestinal infectious disease of puppies. With diarrhea as its main feature, adult dogs generally take the recessive process after infection. Rotavirus exists in the intestinal tract of diseased dogs and is excreted with feces to pollute the surrounding environment. The digestive tract is the main route of infection of this disease. Cured animals can still detoxify from feces, but it is not clear how long the detoxification will take. Rotavirus has a certain degree of mutual infection between humans and animals, so as long as the virus persists in humans or an animal, it is possible to cause the disease to spread in nature for a long time. Rotavirus has a certain degree of mutual infection between humans and animals, so as long as the virus persists in humans or an animal, it is possible to cause the disease to spread in nature for a long time.

Main points of diagnosis: (1) epidemic characteristics: dogs of all ages can be infected, but adult dogs are generally recessive infection, lack of obvious symptoms. The disease mostly occurs in the cold season. Poor sanitary conditions can often induce the disease.

(2) Clinical features: severe diarrhea often occurred in puppies, mixed with water samples to mucus-like feces, which lasted for 8 to 10 days. But appetite and body temperature did not change much. Usually, according to the above changes, a preliminary diagnosis can be made. The diagnosis depends on the village microscope. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (Elisa) is also a commonly used diagnostic method.

Prevention and control measures:

First: the sick dog should be immediately isolated to a clean, dry, warm place, stop feeding and use glucose glycine solution (45 grams of glucose, 8.5 grams of calcium chloride, 6 grams of glycine, 0.5 grams of citric acid, 0.13 grams of potassium citrate, 4.3 grams of potassium dihydrogen phosphate, 200 ml of water) or glucose amino acid solution for free drinking. Glucose saline and 5% sodium bicarbonate solution can also be injected to prevent dehydration and desalination.

Second: to ensure that puppies can eat enough colostrum so that they can get immune protection. You can also try subcutaneous injection of adult dog serum. There is no vaccine available at present
