Last Updated: 2024/09/16, Bamboo shoot shell fish, known as brown pond snakehead or sharp pond snakehead, is a warm water economic fish, mainly produced in Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries, commonly known as bamboo shoot shell fish in Guangdong and South China. The largest body length is 60cm, which weighs up to 5--6kg. The tail weight 0.3kg reaches the commodity specification. Thai bamboo shoot shell fish belongs to the suborder goby, carnivorous, benthic and cave-dwelling fishes, photophobic and often hidden in stone crevices and caves. The color of the body surface will change with the surrounding water quality and environment. Under natural conditions, the main food is small fish and shrimp. The range of culture water temperature is 15 ℃ 33 min.

Bamboo shell fish scientific name brown pond fish or sharp pond fish, warm water economic fish, mainly produced in Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries, commonly known as bamboo shell fish in Guangdong and South China. The maximum body length is 60cm and weighs 5- 6kg. The tail weight is 0.3kg, reaching the commodity specification. Thailand bamboo shell fish belongs to the suborder gobies, carnivorous, benthos, burrowing fish, photophobia, often hidden in stone crevices, caves, body color will change with the surrounding water quality and environment, under natural conditions, the main food is small fish, shrimp, culture temperature range in 15--33℃, suitable for water temperature 25--30℃, suitable for pH value between 7.0 - 8.5, suitable for pond, reservoir, mountain pond cage and greenhouse culture. Bamboo shoot shell fish tender meat, less thorns, delicious taste, better than seawater green grouper. The price will not be lower than 100 - 120 yuan/kg, and the breeding cost is relatively low. 1. Selection of fry specifications. The scales on the body surface of bamboo shoot fish are special. They are comb-toothed. Reverse friction can easily hurt the skin and induce infection. The seed size is too large, the scale development is relatively mature, and it is easy to scratch each other during transportation and cause infection, even death. Therefore, the key to the success of breeding bamboo shell fish lies in the selection of small-sized fry, generally no more than 2 cm. After the seedlings are transported back, they shall be temporarily cultivated in pots and barrels for 2 days immediately. The specific methods are as follows: (1) 20mg/L potassium permanganate is soaked and washed for 1h;(2) 10% povidone iodine is added into 20mg/L and 0.6% salt solution is used for soaking and temporarily culturing for 40- 48;(3) if the temperature is high, 20mg/L potassium permanganate is used for sprinkling disinfection on the whole pond at the same time, and seedlings are released after 2 days; and (4) seedlings are released between 2000 and 3000 per mu. In addition, fish nests must be set up. Cut into 60cm or so with 12cm diameter non-toxic PVC pipe, fix it into "well" shape, and place it at the bottom of the pond. 30- 40 "wells" per mu. 2. The characteristics of feeding the fish with bait are that the growth speed is slow in the early stage, and it takes 60- 70 days to grow from 2 cm to 10cm. Live bait must be fed during this time. Better live bait such as wild miscellaneous fish larvae flower, freshwater shrimp fry (shrimp fry can also be desalinated). Because the growth rate of small fish and shrimp is faster than that of shoot shell fry, feeding fish and shrimp fry of appropriate specifications in batches is extremely beneficial to the success of breeding.
