Swine influenza is an acute, highly contagious disease caused by swine influenza. It is characterized by sudden onset, high incidence, rapid spread of the whole population but low mortality. Sick pigs are mainly characterized by fever, dyspnea, cough, mucus and purulent secretions from eyes and nostrils. The diagnosis and treatment of swine influenza is analyzed as follows:

1 Incidence

There are 83 pigs in a pig farm, including 55 piglets and 28 fattening pigs. Because our county is located in the mountainous area of southeast of Jilin Province, the weather alternates between cold and warm in October, and the temperature difference between day and night is large. On October 19, 2004, 5 piglets suddenly developed cough, shortness of breath, decreased appetite, and even 2 piglets developed anorexia, runny nose, secretion in the corners of the eyes. By October 22, most pigs had the above symptoms, and it was found that pigs of both sizes had aversion to cold and shivering and piled up with each other. Subsequently, symptomatic treatment was immediately carried out with drugs such as virolimus and analgin. Most pigs 'symptoms were relieved, but one piglet died due to delayed treatment.

2 Clinical symptoms

Sick pigs suddenly come on, almost in the same group infected, body temperature rises, often between 40.3~41.5℃, sometimes can rise to 42℃, spirit is highly depressed, appetite loss or waste, sick pigs often lie on the ground, crowded together, breathing difficulties, cough or mixed with paroxysmal spasmodic cough, viscous purulent secretion from eyes and nostrils, individual pigs may be converted to chronic, persistent cough, dyspepsia, emaciation and weakness, and death may occur for a long course of disease.

3 Autopsy findings

The pathological changes were found in respiratory organs, throat mucosa congestion, white thick mucus covering, large amount of mucus in trachea, deep purplish red and firm lung lesions, gastrointestinal mucosa congestion.

4 diagnostic

4.1 Preliminary diagnosis can be made on the basis of epidemiology, clinical symptoms and autopsy pathology.

4.2 The virus was isolated from chicken embryos and further identified by hemagglutination test and hemagglutination inhibition test. Also available trachea and lung disease material nasal inoculation of mice, usually 3~ 4 days of onset, and finally died of viral pneumonia, can be diagnosed with this disease.

5 Preventive measures

5.1 Isolate sick pigs and infected pigs in time, thoroughly disinfect contaminated places and pighouses with 20% lime milk, and keep pighouses clean, warm and dry.

5.2 There is no effective treatment for this disease, only symptomatic treatment, treatment methods are as follows:

5.2.1 Adamantadine hydrochloride taken orally, 1 tablet twice daily.

5.2.2 Intramuscular injection of 5~10mL of malinoguanidine hydrochloride twice daily.

5.2.3 10~20mL of isatis root injection was injected intramuscularly twice a day.

5.2.4 If the body temperature rises to 41~42℃, intramuscular injection of 30% analgin 5~10mL can be used.

5.3 For uninfected pigs, feed complete feed and add antibiotics to feed to enhance pig body resistance.

6 Summary

6.1 The epidemic of this disease has obvious seasonality, mostly occurs in late autumn, early spring and cold season, sick pigs and infected pigs are the source of infection of this disease, this disease has epidemic, once the disease occurs. The disease occurred within 2~ 3 days, but the disease course was short and the mortality was low. Under the action of rainy, humid, cold weather, sudden climate change, transportation and malnutrition, the resistance of pigs decreased, which could promote the occurrence and epidemic of the disease.

6.2 This disease is often seen in clinical practice, and laboratory diagnosis should be carried out if necessary, otherwise it is easy to be confused with swine acute asthma and swine lung disease, resulting in misdiagnosis.

6.3 If infected pigs are found, they should be isolated in time. The pigsty should be thoroughly disinfected with 3% caustic soda, 5% bleaching powder and lime water. The pigsty should be dry and warm to prevent thieves from attacking. If influenza occurs in humans, contact between patients and pigs should be prohibited to prevent secondary infection.

6.4 Strengthening feed management, feeding digestible green and juicy feed, and providing enough clean drinking water can accelerate the recovery of sick pigs.
