Prevention and treatment of snake trauma

Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Due to the limitations of culture conditions, small injuries are inevitable when people catch or transport snakes. Most snakes can heal themselves, but some snakes have abscesses due to decreased immunity. If the wound is infected by bacteria and can not be treated in time, it will not be able to shed its skin, and the abscess will be expanded to a certain extent with the phenomenon of dead snakes. Such as raising pythons, mites are often parasitic in the cracks in the scales, sometimes cause trauma after removing mites, and once the wound is infected by bacteria, it will cause ulceration, which will directly affect the normal growth and development of pythons.

The treatment of trauma is simple. During treatment, rinse the wound with disinfectant, then smear the affected area with gentian purple solution, or smear with 1%-2% iodine tincture, 2-3 times a day until cured. If it is found that the wound has suppurated, you can sprinkle the crushed oxytetracycline or madiomycin on the affected area and press it with your hand to keep the powder on the wound so as not to rub off when the snake finds it crawling. If some wounds fester deeply, it is best to take them out alone and bandage them with a band-aid after debridement.

After routine treatment, the trauma can recover completely in 2-5 days. In order to put an end to the occurrence of snake trauma, the waste wire, steel wire and broken glass in the snake farm must be cleaned up. In addition, when breeders enter the snake farm, they must pay attention to the snakes crawling under their feet to avoid artificial foot injuries. Autumn is the season to cut weeds in the field, and it is best to pull out some wild animals with stout roots. If you cut with a sickle, the sharp stubble is also the main "killer" that stabs the skin and causes ulcers. As long as the above factors are excluded, snake trauma is rare.
