Feeding Management of newborn Dogs

One of the most important things after a dog is born is to keep warm. Generally speaking, most bitches take care of their own puppies. After birth, the temperature in the delivery room should be kept at about 20 ℃ ~ 25 ℃. The female dog should increase its nutritional requirements during the lactation period. As long as the female nutrition and puppies are in good condition, they can usually be weaned from 30 to 35 days after birth.

If the nutritional requirement of puppies after weaning is based on the metabolic unit of somatotype, it should be twice as much as that of dogs. In addition to the increase of nutrient density, it is appropriate to feed the food with lower fiber and higher digestibility. This is especially important for small dogs, and the feeding amount should be properly prepared according to different breeds. Because usually about half of the puppies enter the small intestine in about two hours after feeding, and then enter the large intestine less than an hour later. The retention time of these digestible substances is related to the frequency and amount of feeding, as well as physiological changes and other factors, usually no more than 12 hours. Therefore, it is best to adopt the feeding method of eating less and more meals for puppies. Puppies for one to two months should be fed more than 5 meals a day, with 80% full each time. Remember to let dogs eat as much as they like, which can easily lead to digestive diseases in puppies.
