Variety source: Daguo Sweet carambola No.1 is an excellent single plant selected from Malaysia sweet carambola B10 series.
Characteristics: the branches are open, the branchlets are numerous and dense, slightly erect. The leaves are odd-pinnate, 11 cm long and 8 cm 14 cm wide; the number of leaflets is 7-15, mostly 11, alternate or opposite; leaflets ovate, leaf body asymmetric, one side base broad and obtuse round, the other side base narrow oblique, the leaflet at the top of the compound leaf is the largest. Flowers are racemes, axillary, 2-3 cm long, each inflorescence has more than ten to dozens of flowers. Flowers small, about 8 mm long, crown diameter about 4 mm, bell-shaped, 5 petals, purplish red with fragrance; 10 stamens, 5 short and hypoplastic, lack of anthers, 5 pollen; 1 pistil, superior ovary, 5-loculed, with 1 seed per locule. The fruit is fleshy berry, long spindle-shaped, the center of the fruit tip is slightly protruding, obtuse, generally 5-angled, the cross section is pentagonal, the pericarp is thin and smooth, waxy luster, the immature fruit is green, golden when ripe. The average single fruit weight is 221 grams, the pulp is fine, the fiber is less, the taste is sweet, the pulp soluble solids is 8% 12.5%, and the total organic acid content is 0.2% 0.35%.
Planting in southern Guangxi has three or four times of flowering and fruiting every year: from mid-late May to early June, from mid-late August to early September, from mid-late July to mid-August, from mid-October to early November, from late October to mid-November, and from mid-January to late February the following year.
Yield performance: flowering and hanging fruit in the same year, and can be formally put into production in the second year, with a yield of 15 kg per plant, 30 kg per plant in the third year, and a peak yield in the fourth year, with a yield of more than 50 kg per plant.
The main points of cultivation techniques are as follows: 1. Pruning is carried out twice a year, the first time after fruit picking in autumn and winter to before spring bud germination, and the second in late May. 2. Apply fertilizer to promote shoots and strong flowers after fruit harvest before April every year. Strong fruit fertilizer is applied after Xiehua. 3. Carambola root system is not resistant to water stains, so it is necessary to dredge the drainage ditch before the rainy season to prevent stagnant water from rotting roots. When planting on dry sloping land, it is necessary to irrigate in time in case of long drought, so that the soil is often moist. 4. Each branchlet has only two flower spikes. When the fruit is the size of thumb, the fruit is thinned, and too many small fruits, deformed fruits and disease and insect fruits are removed.
