Brief introduction:
Shrubs or small trees; having latex. Leaves alternate, pinnately veined. Cymes. Flowers large; calyx 5-parted, with glands at inner base of lobes; Corolla funnelform, Corolla tube short, lower cylindric, throat with 5 hairy scales, Corolla lobes wide; stamens 5, born in crown tube throat, anthers separated from stigmas; no disk; ovary 2-loculed, 2 ovules per locule. Drupe, hard.
About 15 species, distributed in tropical America and tropical Africa, are cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. Two species and one variety were introduced into China.
