Duck heatstroke, also known as heat stress, is an acute disease caused by the disturbance of heat dissipation mechanism and the destruction of heat balance in ducks under high temperature and humidity. If the disease is not treated effectively in time, it can cause a large number of ducks to die, thus causing greater economic losses to breeding.

1. The temperature in summer is too high, or the humidity increases after heavy rain, and ducks are most likely to cause heatstroke under the combined effect of high temperature and high humidity.

2. There is no shade facility in the duck's sports place, so that the duck is exposed to strong sunlight for a long time.

3, feeding density is too large, duck house ventilation is poor, resulting in heat is not easy to emit.

4, insufficient drinking water or due to summer water temperature rise, harmful bacteria and algae in the pond caused by the proliferation of water quality deterioration.

5, ducks suffer from other diseases or other stress (such as thunderstorms, sudden changes in temperature, sudden changes in feed, etc.).

After duck heatstroke, there will be body temperature rise, crouching unwilling to walk, mouth breathing or stretching wings to dissipate heat, followed by unstable standing, paroxysmal coma paralysis (specifically manifested as duck head touching the ground or shaking head, unstable standing, when driven to run normally, but not far away and head touching the ground, coma or shaking head and other neurological symptoms). Anatomy of dead ducks will find that blood is not easy to coagulate, sometimes myocardial hemorrhage, hepatomegaly, hemorrhage and even necrosis, meningeal congestion and so on.

Some farmers or veterinary workers diagnosed bird flu, duck viral hepatitis or gosling plague according to the above symptoms, and did not take heatstroke prevention and cooling measures during the treatment process, nor did they use anti-stress heatstroke prevention drugs, even causing ducks to accelerate the death of ducks suffering from heatstroke after being stressed by duck catching and injection.

preventive measures

1, reasonable design duck house, preferably east-west direction, height not less than 2.5 meters, span not more than 8 meters, in order to facilitate natural ventilation.

2. Plant trees 2-3 meters away from the duck house to avoid direct sunlight. You can also plant grass around the duck house or plant vines such as loofah and creeper beside the duck house to absorb heat.

3. Set up pergolas or sunshade nets in sports places to avoid ducks being exposed to sunlight for a long time.

4. From April to May every year, when the water temperature of the pond rises to about 25℃, disinfect the water body with sodium dichloroisocyanurate or trichloroisocyanuric acid according to the instructions.

5, provide ducks with sufficient clean drinking water, when the temperature exceeds 29℃, you can add electrolytic multivitamins or water-soluble vitamin C in drinking water or feed, you can also use some Chinese herbal medicine decoction or mixing. Commonly used Chinese herbal medicines are: Lophatherum gracile 10 g, talc 15 g, raw rehmannia root 12 g, Imperata rhizome 25 g, Elsholtzia 15 g decoction for 15-day-old ducks to drink; can also be used Houttuynia cordata, plantain, Lophatherum gracile, Elsholtzia decoction drink.

6. During the high temperature period at noon, the roof of duck house can be sprayed with water, the ground can be sprayed with water, and the ducks can also be sprayed with appropriate disinfectant to disinfect them, which can not only cool down but also kill pathogenic microorganisms. It should be noted that the premise of taking these measures is good ventilation, otherwise it will increase the humidity of the air inside the house.

7. Do a good job in preventing and treating other diseases. According to the occurrence law of duck disease in this farm and the occurrence of diseases in other farms around, immunization and drug prevention should be done well; duck parasite prevention and control should be done well. The incidence of duck tapeworm disease in western Guangdong is relatively high, so it is suggested to use compound albendazole (containing albendazole and ivermectin) for anthelmintic. When other diseases occur in ducks, heatstroke prevention and cooling measures should be taken according to the local conditions in the treatment process, and anti-stress drugs should be added to drinking water or feed.

8. Reduce or avoid ducks from being affected by other stress factors. Avoid rain; do not change feed suddenly; when the weather changes suddenly, use electrolytic multivitamins or water-soluble vitamin C to drink water or mix.

1. When ducks are found to have heatstroke symptoms, they should be immediately transferred to shade or set up shade sheds and shade nets.

2, with electrolytic multi-vitamin or water-soluble vitamin C, 5% glucose powder, 0.3-0.5 sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) drinking water, you can also add some antibiotics in drinking water or feed to prevent secondary infection. If found in time, according to the above methods can effectively control the disease.

3. Acupuncture is used to bleed blood on the blood vessels of the feet of heatstroke ducks.

4. Slowly sprinkle the duck's head with cold water, and take 4-5 ml of 2%"ten drops of water"; or use fresh balsam pear leaves and Artemisia annua to knead the juice; use Huo Xiang Zhengqi water, each bottle mixed with 1 kg of water or 0.5 kg of mixed materials, for 3-5 days.
