I. White raccoon dog and its characteristics

Raccoon dogs in nature have always been bluish brown, and this common color type is genetically called the wild type. In 1974, Harbin Zoo in Heilongjiang Province acquired a rare male white raccoon dog (eyes and kisses are light pink). In 1980, yellowish brown or light blue eyes and black white raccoon dogs or white raccoon dogs were found one after another in three northeastern provinces. These special color types, which are different from the wild type, are called mutants. The Special products Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has successfully cultivated the existing new color type of white raccoon dog in China after nearly 10 years of research.

From the phenotypic point of view, the existing new color types of white raccoon dogs in China can be divided into two types: one is that the hairs and hairs of other parts of the body are white except the rims of the eyes, the margin of the ear, the tip of the nose, claws and the tip of the tail, and the other is that the hairs and hairs of all parts of the body are white. The coat colors of the two kinds of white raccoon dogs are lovable, their body shape is not significantly different from that of the common raccoon dogs, and their behavior is more tame than that of the common raccoon dogs.

2. Genetic characteristics of coat color of white raccoon dog

A large number of studies have shown that the genetic gene of raccoon dog white hair is dominant gene (w), and its corresponding wild type genetic gene is recessive gene (w), but raccoon dog white dominant gene has homozygous lethal effect, so all individuals of raccoon dog are heterozygous (Ww). The coat color separation of white raccoon dog, white raccoon dog and wild raccoon dog is as follows:

(l) White raccoon dog x white raccoon dog (2) white raccoon dog x wild type raccoon dog

(Ww) ↓ (Ww) (Ww) ↓ (ww)

WW+Ww+wwWw+ww

It can be seen that when the white raccoon dog mated with the white raccoon dog, the offspring only had 1 raccoon dog and 2 white raccoon dog, which reduced its fecundity due to the homozygous lethal effect of the dominant gene. The white raccoon dog mated with the wild type raccoon dog, and the offspring also separated 1 raccoon dog and 2 white raccoon dog, but avoided the consequence of homozygous death of dominant gene.

3. Selection of white raccoon dog

At present, the coat color of the white raccoon dog type in China has been very stable, that is, the part of the white hair is white regardless of the needle hair and the villi are all white, and there is no other miscellaneous color (such as the needle hair is white and the villi is not white or part of the body is not white, etc.). Therefore, the selection of white raccoon dogs should focus on coat color, hair quality and body shape, especially male raccoon dogs.

The selection of white raccoon dogs should be mated with wild-type raccoon dogs, but not among white raccoon dogs. White raccoon dogs generally have the disadvantage of thick and long needle hair, and the selected wild raccoon dogs had better have short and dense needle hair to correct the shortcomings of white raccoon dogs.
