Wheat farmers pay attention to pest control

The reporter learned from the provincial plant protection station that the number of insect sources in areas with frequent occurrence of trematodes in our province has generally rebounded this year, most of which are the highest in recent years, and the estimated area of occurrence in the province is about 4.5 million mu. Relevant experts suggest that the fields with high coincidence degree in the "two stages" (the stage of wheat heading and flowering and the peak emergence of adults of trematodes) should be identified as the target fields for control.

The investigation at this station found that the population base of wheat trematodes in the middle of Huaibei and along the Huaihe River was higher than that in the same period in recent years, and the development progress of wheat midges along the Huaihe River and the western part of Huaibei was obviously faster than that in the eastern region. The peak emergence stage of adults coincided with the heading and flowering stage of middle and late maturing wheat varieties. It was found that the heading and flowering stage of middle and late maturing wheat varieties occurred along the Huaihe River and the west of Huaibei on April 18-20 and in the east of Huaibei on April 18-22, which coincided with the peak period of trematodes. At the same time, the climatic conditions are favorable for the emergence of pupae of midges.

The provincial plant protection station suggested that in view of the high population density of wheat midge in some areas and the great differences in occurrence periods in different areas this year, it was suggested that farmers should carry out control according to pest situation, seedling condition and weather. In areas with low population base, the main control of adults shall be implemented; in areas with high population base, pupae shall be treated and adults shall be supplemented.

Farmers' soil survey found that when there are 5 insects in each sample, or 3-5 flying adults can be seen at a glance of hand-plucked wheat, control can be carried out.

For mid-pupa control, farmers can use 50% phoxim 150 ml or 80% dichlorvos 100 ml mixed with fine soil 20 kg evenly sprinkled on the wheat field. Pull the wheat ear with a rope or beat the wheat ear with a bamboo pole to bury the medicine and kill the pupa. Watering after the medicine or applying it before the rain is better. For adult stage control, farmers can use 4.5% cypermethrin 50 ml, 48% chlorpyrifos 40 ml or 80% dichlorvos 100 ml, add 30 kg of water to the adult peak spray.
