[etiology]

First, excessive hunger, eating too quickly, swallowing large mouthfuls of food without full chewing, or being disturbed during feeding, suddenly raising the head to swallow, and so on.

Second, due to play and misswallow gloves, wooden balls and other foreign bodies make esophageal obstruction.

Third, the feed is mixed with bone, meat, fish bones and other things, blocking when eating. Esophageal infarction can occur anywhere in the esophagus, but it is most likely to occur at the thoracic entrance, the base of the heart and into the hiatus of the esophagus.

[main points of diagnosis]

When the esophagus is not completely infarcted, the disease occurs suddenly, with mild restlessness, vomiting and choking, slow ingestion, refusal to eat large chunks of food (meat, bones), and pain when swallowing. When the dog is completely infarcted and blocked by a sharp foreign body, the sick dog suddenly refuses to eat completely, has a high degree of unease, straightens the head and neck, drooles heavily, chokes or vomits, vomits foamy mucus and blood, and often scratches the neck later, or has a paroxysm cough. even suffocation.

According to the medical history and sudden special symptoms, combined with gastric tube exploration to find the site of obstruction, etc., can be diagnosed. If there are conditions, you can do X-ray fluoroscopy or photography, you can determine its specific location.

[prevention and control measures]

First, feeding must be timed and quantified and should not be overstarved. It should be fed to the bones after other foods have been eaten. Dogs should be prevented from eating foreign bodies during training.

Second, mild infarction is often cured after repeated choking or spasmodic swallowing, when the obstruction is spit out or enter the stomach on its own. Most need to be treated. Can first take 1020ml liquid paraffin or vegetable oil, and then hypodermic injection of pilocarpine nitrate, the dosage is 320mg / time, after a few hours, some can be cured. You can also carefully push the foreign body into the stomach with a thin gastric tube after taking liquid paraffin. Or connect the pump on the stomach tube, pump it rhythmically and slowly push the obstruction into the stomach with the stomach tube when the esophagus is dilated. If the above treatment is ineffective, esophagoscope and foreign body forceps can be used to remove the foreign body. Esophagotomy is performed to remove the obstruction if necessary.
