It is selected by Henan Agricultural University, Junxian Agricultural Experimental Station, Junxian original seed Farm and Junxian seed Company. It was approved and named by Henan crop Variety approval Committee in 2000.

In the seven regional trials of the super-high-yield Chunshui group in Henan Province, the average yield was 530.3 kg per 667m2, which was 2.16% higher than that of the control variety Yumai 18, ranking first. From 1999 to 2000, 11 trials of late-sowing and early-maturing groups in Henan Province produced an average of 449.5 kilograms per 667square meters, an increase of 6.42 percent, ranking first.

Yumai 68 was analyzed by the Grain quality Supervision, Inspection and Test Center (Beijing) of the Ministry of Agriculture in 2000, moisture 11.2%, crude protein (dry base) 15.13%, bulk weight 814 g / L, wet gluten 33.8%, dry gluten 10.9%, sedimentation value 41.0 ml, water absorption 62.0%, dough formation time 4.0 minutes, stability time 10.2 minutes. The weight of toasted bread is 150 grams, the volume of bread is 887 cm, and the score of bread is 91.6.

This variety is highly resistant to stripe, culm, white powder (grade 1) and leaf clover. It belongs to the type from partial winter to weak spring, with a growth period of 222 days. The seedlings are semi-creeping, with dark green leaves and good cold tolerance. The seedling stage grows vigorously and develops rapidly. The tillering ability is medium, the panicle rate is high, the panicle is large and has many grains, and the growth is strong. The three factors of yield are 6 million per hectare per spike, 38 grains per ear and 40 grams per thousand grains. The plant type is compact, the leaf is flushed up, and the coleoptile is green.
