Scientific name: Cazaniarigens

Family: Compositae Medal Flower

Species: Perennial Herbs

Name: medal flower, named for its shape like a medal.

Origin: South Africa

Morphological characteristics:

The flower shape of medal chrysanthemum is peculiar, the color is rich, its flower center has dark eye spot, the shape of medal, has strong wild interest, is a common potted flower and flower bed in the garden.

With rhizomes, leaves from the rhizosphere cluster, leaves lanceolate or obovate lanceolate, entire or with shallow pinnate, leaf back densely white hair; capitate, tongue flowers white, yellow, orange red and other colors, petals shiny.

Growth habits:

Cluster shape, flowering long, like warm sunny climate, like good drainage, loose fertile soil, good cool, not cold, avoid high temperature and high humidity and waterlogging. Medallions are beautiful in color, open to the sun and close as the sun sets, so they bloom repeatedly for about 10 days before they wither. Field plants perform better, with stronger plants and more flowers.

Medallion is resistant to low temperature, not afraid of frost, but can not tolerate long-term freezing, warmer areas need to be covered before winter, northern cold areas can not overwinter.

Medallion can adapt to a wide range of temperature and light, and can grow well at 10~30℃. Greenhouse cultivation flowers continuously throughout the year.

The average suitable temperature for growth of Medallion is 15℃~20℃, 13℃~24℃ from March to September and 7℃~13℃ from September to March of the following year. Medallion has strong adaptability to high temperature above 30℃, winter temperature should not be lower than 5℃, although it can withstand low temperature of 0℃ for a short time, but it is easy to freeze when the low temperature is too long. Medallion is sensitive to moisture, and its stems and leaves need moist soil during their growth period. If there is too much soil moisture in rainy season, the plants are easy to suffer from waterlogging and lead to death. Summer high temperature, the air humidity should not be too high, basin soil should not be ponding, otherwise are on the medal chrysanthemum growth and flowering adverse. Medallions are light-loving flowers that require plenty of sunlight during growth and flowering. If the cultivation site is not enough light, it will lead to soft leaves, fewer buds, smaller flowers and lighter colors. Medallion grows well in fertile, loose and well-drained sandy loam.

Pot soil available culture soil, decaying soil and coarse sand mixed soil. Fertilization should be applied once every half month during the growth period. Keep the soil moist and sunny, and the medallions will bloom continuously. If no seed is left, the remaining flowers should be cut off in time after the flowers die, which can reduce the nutrient consumption and promote the formation of more buds and continuous flowering. In winter, the medallion can continue to bloom if it is cultivated indoors.

Common cultivars include early-flowering Dawn, Orange, Red Stripe, Harlequin, etc.; dwarf varieties such as Dana Star, Mini Star, Genius, etc.; large-flowered varieties such as Sunshine, Yellow sunrise, etc. In addition, there are varieties such as Aztec Queen, Red Wine, Copper King and Red Festival.

Harvesting precautions: seeds covered with fluff, mature will fly away with the wind, pay attention to harvesting.
