How to raise orchids in hot weather
First, guard against glare
Summer in China begins in late May and ends in late September for as long as 4 months. The Summer Solstice used to have plenty of sunshine, which played a certain role in improving the seedling rate. After the Summer Solstice, the sun is so strong that it must be shaded; otherwise, it will cause cell necrosis of orchid leaves and cause burns. Shading net can be used for shading, and a layer of net can be used from May to June, with a shading degree of about 60%. A double-layer sunshade net should be used from July to August, and the upper layer had better be movable, so that it can be adjusted according to the weather and light intensity. The outdoor orchid plant can also be moved indoors, and the orchid plant from the southwest balcony to the northeast balcony to avoid the light.
Second, prevent high temperature
The suitable growth temperature of orchid is 15: 30 ℃, 25: 30 ℃ is the fastest, and 30: 32 ℃ can grow slowly. If the temperature rises to 33-37 ℃, it will go into dormancy, and if the temperature exceeds 37 ℃, the orchid plants may die from the muggy heat. The way to cool down is to set up trays or basins and sinks under the orchid basin. The sink can be made of zinc iron sheet with a bottom width of 20 cm and a circumferential height of 10 cm. Put bricks in the trough, fill it with water, and put an orchid basin on it. Second, spray the orchid plant many times a day and sprinkle water to the ground. Third, the orchid shed is covered with plastic film, and the orchid room and balcony are covered with water-absorbing carpets. Fourth, the orchid room, the blue shed doors and windows hang wet cloth curtains.
Third, prevent muggy heat
The heat wave in midsummer is rolling, and the heat is overwhelming, which is a severe test for the orchid plant. If no corresponding measures are taken, some orchid plants will be suffocated by muggy air. Solution: (1) in the orchid shed, orchid room, closed balcony, use plastic film or nylon cloth to make the reservoir. (2) the orchid shed uses electric fan and automatic spray humidifier; the orchid room uses air conditioning. (3) the ground raises the orchid to support bricks under the basin to enlarge the distance between the basins; the orchid shed and orchid room open the doors and windows at night to make it ventilated. (4) spray water on the sunshade net around noon to turn the water into rain or fog under the net, which can quickly lower the temperature and reduce the threat of muggy heat.
Fourth, guard against strong winds
That is, typhoons in the south and dry and hot winds in the north. Before each typhoon, there are several days of humid and muggy weather, orchids are prone to physiological or invasive diseases. It is necessary to increase cooling in time, increase ventilation and keep the air fresh and cool. The dry and hot wind mostly occurs after the beginning of autumn, the weather is muggy, the air is dry, and there are often serious disasters such as "autumn tiger" and "autumn dry" at the same time. During this period, the weather is unusually sunny, the light is particularly strong, and the air is very dry, which is extremely disadvantageous to the orchid plant. Must increase the density of the sunshade net, often spray to the orchid plant, sprinkle water to the ground, in order to cool down and adjust the air humidity.
