Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Hemlock, commonly known as wild celery, is a perennial umbrella plant, like to grow in wet, low-lying areas, toxic mainly in the root and stem, the component is alkaloid apigenin. Because hemlock germinates earlier and grows faster than other plants in spring, when cattle and sheep graze in low-lying areas in early spring, cattle and sheep first see hemlock seedlings and immediately eat, and gnaw off the rhizome exposed to the ground, because its rhizome is less sweet, cattle and sheep like to eat, to a certain amount, causing poisoning. 1. The main results are as follows: 1. Clinical symptoms occur suddenly during grazing, showing agitation, shortness of breath, rumen dyspnea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, systemic spasm, and then fall to the ground because of standing difficulties. Head and neck back, teeth closed, limbs straight, pulse increased, heartbeat strong, lying motionless in the later stage, weak pulse, reflex disappeared, died of respiratory paralysis.

2. Autopsy showed severe congestion, hemorrhage, swelling of gastric and intestinal mucosa, congestion of brain and meninges, hemorrhage of endocardium, myocardium, kidney, bladder mucosa and subcutaneous connective tissue, and thin blood.

3. The diagnosis can be judged according to the clinical symptoms and the history of hemlock poisoning investigated in the pasture.

4, early detection of treatment or small food intake can be treated, first quickly discharge the contents of the stomach, after gastric lavage with 0.1% permanganate solution, take 200ml of iodine solution (1g of iodine, 2g of potassium iodide, 1500 ml of water) and use it again every 2 hours. At the same time, chloral hydrate, magnesium sulfate and chlorpromazine were injected intravenously to relieve spasm. In order to improve heart function, cardiotonic agents, glucose and vitamin VC should be used.

5. To prevent grazing in early spring, we should avoid going to poisonous growing areas or low-lying areas, and if necessary, inspect the pasture before grazing; feed a small amount of feed before grazing in early spring to avoid livestock hunger; in areas with poisonous celery, we should turn over the soil deeply and transform the pasture.
