Adding garlic feed to improve the growth of pigs

Last Updated: 2024/11/22, Swiss researchers have found that adding a small amount of garlic to pig feed is good for the healthy growth of pigs. Maybe garlic is enough to play the role of antibiotics in the feeding process of pigs. Martin Jost of the Poultry Research Institute added general antibiotics, garlic or nothing to the feed of three groups of piglets. The results showed that the effect of garlic on reducing diarrhea and death of piglets was better than that of no garlic or only antibiotics, but the deficiency was that the pigs fed with garlic as additive gained weight more slowly, while antibiotics were used.

Swiss researchers have found that adding a small amount of garlic to pig feed is good for the healthy growth of pigs. Maybe garlic is enough to play the role of antibiotics in the feeding process of pigs. Martin Jost of the Poultry Research Institute added general antibiotics, garlic or nothing to the feed of three groups of piglets.

The results showed that the effect of garlic on reducing diarrhea and death of piglets was better than that of no garlic or only antibiotics, but the deficiency was that the weight gain of pigs fed with garlic as additive was slower, while that of antibiotics was not. Nevertheless, Jost believes that the right amount of garlic and other "organic" drugs will eventually replace antibiotics, and opposition to the use of antibiotics is growing in Europe because of fears that the use of antibiotics will promote bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics.

Jost also pointed out in the test report that from the pig feed he fed with garlic, he could no longer smell or taste the garlic because he mashed the garlic so finely that the stinky enzymes had lost their activity.
