This variety fills the gap that there is no medium gluten wheat in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and won the first prize for scientific and technological progress in Hubei Province in 2005. According to Li Meifang, a breeder of "E Mai 18" and a researcher of Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences, "E Mai 18" is the first one in Hubei to use high quality (up to the national special wheat variety medium gluten standard), high yield (increase yield by 8.75%), multi-resistance (medium resistance to stripe rust and powdery mildew) and early maturity (

The new variety "Emai 18", which is special for high quality, high yield, multi-resistance and early maturity, has been successfully bred in Hubei province. This variety fills the gap that there is no medium gluten wheat in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and won the first prize for scientific and technological progress in Hubei Province in 2005.

According to Li Meifang, a breeder of "E Mai 18" and a researcher of Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences, "E Mai 18" is the first high quality medium gluten wheat variety in Hubei to organically integrate the four target characters of high quality (up to the national standard of special wheat varieties), high yield (increase yield by 8.75%), multi-resistance (medium resistance to stripe rust and powdery mildew) and early maturity (the whole growth period is 190 days). Its overall level has reached the leading level in the southern wheat region, filling in the gap that there is no medium gluten wheat in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. In 2003, it was listed as a major sub-project of the National "key Popularization Plan of Scientific and technological achievements" and the National "863" Plan. Won the first prize for scientific and technological progress in Hubei Province in 2005.

It is understood that since it was bred, "Emai 18" has been promoted in Hubei, Chongqing and Anhui with a total of 8.23 million mu. The cumulative increase in wheat production was 227 million kg, which led to an increase of 468 million yuan in farmers' income. In 2005 alone, 3.2 million mu of wheat was promoted in more than 30 counties and cities in Hubei, accounting for 30% of the total wheat planting area in the province. Yu Dazhao, vice president of the Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said he would step up efforts to promote "Emai 18" in Hubei and its surrounding provinces, and strive to account for 80 per cent of Hubei's 10 million mu of wheat.
