Last Updated: 2024/11/05, California brome is a perennial, tufted forage with wide and long gray-green leaves and high leaf / stem ratio. The biggest morphological difference between California brome and awnless brome is that it has no underground rhizome. The soil requirement of California brome is similar to that of awnless brome, and its cold resistance is slightly worse than that of awnless brome, but its heat resistance is significantly shorter than that of awnless brome, and most varieties can be used for 6-8 years. California brome has a high leaf / stem ratio, its feeding quality is better than that of awnless brome, and its yield is similar to that of awnless brome. California brome is suitable for the east of China.

California brome is a perennial, tufted forage with wide and long gray-green leaves and high leaf / stem ratio.

California brome is suitable for planting in the south of Northeast China, southeastern Inner Mongolia, the southern and northern foothills of Tianshan Mountains and Yili River Valley, North China Plain, northwest humid areas, Central Plains, Southwest and South China high altitude areas.

The heat resistance of California brome is better than that of unawned brome, which makes it have a great prospect in North China, Central Plains and Southwest China. At present, California brome is mainly in the trial stage in China, and Deborah is one of the best varieties.

Deborah is an octoploid improved variety of brome in California, which has outstanding cold and heat resistance, late heading date, deep and developed root system, strong drought resistance and disease resistance. It began to grow at about 10 ℃ and established rapidly. Because there is no underground rhizome, artificial grassland can be mixed with ryegrass, duck bud, tall fescue and so on. Deborah can grow for 5-7 years under well-managed conditions. In the Central Plains, the yield of Deborah is higher than that of awnless brome, and even higher than duck bud and ryegrass in some areas. The yield of fresh grass per mu is more than 5000 kg.
