Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Because the tortoise has a very hard carapace, once the tortoise gets sick, it is very different from other animals in treatment. Practice has proved that injection is the most effective way to give medicine to sick turtles. The following technical problems should be paid attention to when injecting turtles. 1. Never use long or thick needles. The tortoise body exposes less muscles, generally only slightly more muscles at the base of the front and rear limbs, but the area is not large. So choose a thinner and shorter needle. The injection depth is generally 0.5 cm for small turtles, 0.8 cm for medium turtles and 1.2 to 1.8 cm for big turtles.

Because turtles have a very hard shell, once the turtle disease, treatment is very different from other animals. Practice has proved that injection is the most effective way to treat sick turtles. The following technical problems should be paid attention to when injecting turtles.

1. Do not use long needles, thick needles. Tortoise body exposed muscle less, generally only the front and rear limb base muscle slightly more, but the area is not large. So choose a thinner and shorter needle. The injection depth is 0.5 cm for small turtles, 0.8 cm for medium turtles and 1.2~1.8 cm for large turtles.

2. The injection angle should be correct. When the turtle limbs retract into the shell, it is difficult to enter the needle, so first pull out the turtle limbs, let them straighten, and then make the needle enter at a 45-degree angle with the limbs. Needle angle should not be too large, otherwise it will be injected into the bone fascia, resulting in limb mutilation.

3. It is not advisable to stick needles in the neck. Turtle neck has the role of supporting glans expansion, internal fascia, nerves, blood vessels dense, once pricked easy to occur crooked neck or shrink into, sometimes glans can not lift or even paralysis, thus affecting its feeding. Sometimes neck swelling causes asphyxiation.

4. Strict disinfection. To achieve better and faster results, the turtle must be disinfected when injected. Some suffering from pneumonia, hepatitis, enteritis and other serious diseases of turtles, if necessary, drugs can be injected into its abdominal cavity. In advance, the turtle body should be locally disinfected with iodine tincture, and the syringes and needles should be disinfected at high temperature to avoid bringing germs into the turtle body.

5. Inject medicine into turtle mouth skillfully. In winter and spring, tortoises do not eat during hibernation. If internal medicine is used, medicine can be injected into the mouth of tortoises. After dissolving solid medicinal warm water, use a syringe with a needle removed to suck the liquid medicine into the turtle's mouth. The action should be slow, so that the liquid medicine can be swallowed into the abdomen. Do not inject too hard, in case the drug enters the trachea and causes asphyxiation.

6. The dosage of liquid medicine should not be too much. Due to the small muscle size of the turtle, the total dosage of the injection point should not be injected too much. In principle, the muscle of the injection point should not be obviously raised. If the dose is large, it can be divided into several injection points to avoid causing local muscle damage.
