Propagation methods of Artemisia annua L.
Artemisia annua is a traditional Chinese medicine in China, which has high medicinal value and can treat a variety of diseases. in addition, it is rich in artemisinin and is the main drug for the treatment of malaria. it can also treat heatstroke, skin itching, urticaria, seborrheic dermatitis and mosquito control. At present, there has been a large area of artificial cultivation, but choosing a good breeding method can increase its yield and artemisinin content. Let's take a look at the details below.
1. Garden site selection
The propagation methods of Artemisia annua mainly include seed propagation, cutting propagation and tissue culture propagation, of which the first two need to choose a good plot. Artemisia annua is a short-day plant, so the planting land should choose sandy loam or loam with sufficient sunshine, guaranteed water source, good drainage and good fertility, while barren and dry clayey soil, sand dune land or land with poor drainage should not be planted. This should be noted.
2. Seed propagation
Fertilize the planting land before sowing, generally apply 500 kilograms of rotten farm manure per mu, rake fine leveling and make a high border. When sowing, select the excellent varieties with high artemisinin content, mix them with fine soil in the ratio of 100 to 1, and then spread evenly on the ground to cover with a layer of plant ash or burning soil. After sowing, you can build an arch shed to cover the film. If the temperature in the shed exceeds 25 degrees after emergence, it should be ventilated and lowered in time, and it will be closed in time at dusk. In the case of drought, the film should be uncovered in time, watered thoroughly and then covered up, and drainage should be carried out in time in case of rainy season. In the seedling stage, we should do a good job in weeding, interplanting and replenishing seedlings. When the seedlings grow 5-6 cm earlier, we should apply thin fertilizer and water in time to promote the growth of seedlings.
3. Cuttage propagation
In July-August, collect the top branches of strong plants as cuttings, cut the length of 10-15 cm, require the door with bud holes and leaves. When cutting, cut the lower end into a wedge, remove the basal leaves, leave 2-3 leaves at the top, and cut according to the row spacing of 10cm × 20cm on the ground. The cutting depth is about 5-8 cm, that is, about half the length of the cuttings.
4. Tissue propagation
When the plant grows to a height of 30-50 cm, the tender pods of the lateral buds are separated as explants, washed clean, and treated aseptically. Soak it in 75% alcohol for 30 seconds, soak it in very low concentration of mercuric dichloride dissolved oxygen for 5-6 minutes, rinse it with distilled water several times, and cut it into small segments with buds of about 1 cm for tissue culture. At this time, the new reproduction method of modern research can effectively increase the content of artemisinin in Artemisia annua, but it is not suitable for production and is suitable for medical research.
The above is the introduction of the breeding methods of Artemisia annua. I hope it can help you. If you want to know more about it, please follow us.
