Gardenia, also known as Gardenia jasminoides, is an evergreen shrub of Rubiaceae. Its branches and leaves are dense, the leaves are bright, and the fragrance of flowers is also very strong. The economic value of Gardenia jasminoides is relatively high, which has the effects of clearing lung and relieving cough, cooling blood and stopping bleeding. And there are a lot of people are also planting ornamental, has a high ornamental value. But how to breed when planting? The following editor brings you the breeding method of gardenia, let's have a look!

1. Cuttage propagation

The rooting ability of Gardenia jasminoides branches is relatively strong, and the planting time should be determined according to the planting area when cutting. In the south, it is generally carried out from March to April and from August to October, while in the north, it should be cut around May to June. Before cutting, first cut off the branches with strong growth and free of diseases and insect pests, then cut the branches into small segments of about 12 cm, soak the base in kg of naphthoic acid for about 5 seconds, and then cut them on the sand bed. If the sand bed is kept wet, the rooting rate of branches will be increased. Under normal management, cuttings can take root in about 30 days and transplant in two months.

2. Striping propagation

Striping propagation is generally carried out before and after Ching Ming Festival every year, first of all, from the mother plant that has grown for more than 3 years, we should select the sturdy branches whose growth age is not more than 1 year, and the length is controlled at about 28 cm. Press the branches to the ground, cut the branches where they need to be buried, and then cover the injured parts with soil compaction and pour enough water, which can improve the rooting rate. Generally, it will take root after a month or so. After taking root, the branches will be cut off from the plant after a month to form an independent plant. Transplanting with soil, in the growing period to keep the soil moist, promote the growth of striped plants, appropriate topdressing, do a good job of management.

3. Sowing and reproduction

Before sowing, choose full and brightly colored fruits and dry them as seeds. Before sowing, dig up the seeds in the fruit, rub the seeds, remove the pulp and mucus, remove the seeds that have sunk to the bottom of the water, and then dry them. Then select the mountainous area with plenty of light and the sandy soil with deep, soft and fertile soil to sow. Deep ploughing and soil preparation should be carried out before sowing, remove the roots and miscellaneous trees in the soil, and control the specifications to make the bed. Apply the base fertilizer to the planting, dig the sowing ditch, and then sow it. The sowing time is generally in the spring and autumn. After sowing, cover the fine soil, pour enough water, keep the soil moist and improve the seedling emergence rate.

4. Water insertion propagation

The procedure of selecting branches by water cutting propagation and arranging branches is similar to that of cutting propagation, but mainly by inserting the base of cuttings into clear water. Attention should be paid to the air temperature when carrying out water cuttings, so as to prevent the water temperature from getting higher and causing the base of the cuttings to rot. And to ensure that the cut at the base of the cuttings is smooth and free of impurities, otherwise it is also very perishable. Every 2 days or so to change the water, water appliances should be placed in a cool place, about 3 weeks can take root. After taking root, it should be put into the basin in time. If the young root is more than 3 cm, it is easy to be injured when it is put on the basin.

The rooting rate of water insertion propagation is very high, but it is not suitable for large-scale planting and is generally suitable for family ornamental use. No matter what the propagation method is, after its successful rooting, the soil should be kept moist, so as to effectively ensure the growth of gardenia seedlings.
