Kiwi fruit is also called kiwi fruit, which has a wide planting area in China. The tree shape of kiwifruit is large, so pruning is essential in the planting process. Proper pruning can improve the permeability of fruit trees, regulate the balance between reproductive growth and nutritional growth of kiwifruit trees, and enhance fruit quality. So how should kiwi trees be pruned? The following small series brings you the pruning work of kiwi trees. Let's take a look together!

1. Young tree pruning

Young trees are also to be properly pruned, young trees the main pruning direction for the main branch of culture, fruit mother branch-based. Therefore, we should cut off the sprouts of rootstocks in time during the growth period of young trees and erase excess buds. Then in the fruit of the mother branch growth to about 70 cm when to do a good job of picking. When it is found that the top of the backbone branch grows weak and curly during cultivation, it should also be removed in time to prevent affecting the flowering rate. Finally, in the period of defoliation and dormancy, the shoots should be appropriately truncated and the length extended to the place where the buds are full at the top.

2. Pruning in growth period

Growth period pruning should not be too heavy, to cut off over-dense branches, keep healthy growth branches. Reasonably distribute the vegetative branches and fruiting mother branches on the fruit trees, and timely cut off the excessive branches and vertical growth branches that disturb the tree shape of kiwifruit. Also in the growth period when the vegetative branches grow to about 70 cm when the topping. Then, the top fruit node of the fruiting branch retains about 6 leaves, and the second growth of new shoots should be carried out at 4 leaves. After entering the dormancy period, the new shoots growing in the current year should be truncated.

3. Pruning in full fruiting period

During the full fruiting period, the pruning intensity should be adjusted according to the growth of the tree. The fruit trees with strong growth should be cut lightly, otherwise, the pruning intensity should be increased. Pruning should be done mainly by thinning and truncation, and attention should also be paid to pruning in the growing season. In full fruiting period, all branches should be picked, and when picking stars, healthy branches should be properly kept long, otherwise they should be kept short. When picking, the reserve length should be controlled according to the growth age of the branches and the variety of kiwifruit. Ensure the healthy growth of fruiting mother branches and increase the number of fruits.

4. Dormancy pruning

The temperature in winter gradually decreases, and the kiwi tree will gradually enter the dormancy period. At this time, we should adjust the pruning method according to the planting variety. For example, the healthy vegetative branches of Chinese kiwifruit trees should retain 7-9 buds. The spacing between each fruiting mother branch should be kept at about 35 cm. Then cut off old dead branches, pest branches, etc. from the base, and then observe the growth position of the long branches. The poor position should be cut off from the base, otherwise, 5 buds can be kept and shortened appropriately.

The above is a simple introduction to kiwi tree pruning technology, kiwi tree pruning work is very important for its growth, directly related to the yield of kiwi trees and fruit quality, so we must pay more attention.
