In the middle and later stage of elongation, sugarcane has tall plants and many leaves, so it is easy to lodge if it is attacked by wind and rain. Especially after the rain, the water surface at the tail of the sugarcane plant becomes too heavy, and it will lodge in case of wind. After the lodging of sugarcane, the segments near the ground are easy to grow air roots, draw lateral buds, make the sugarcane bend, consume the nutrients of the internodes, cause hollow or core, reduce the yield of sugarcane, reduce the sugar content, and cause poor growth of sugarcane. In the sugarcane areas with frequent gale and high-yield sugarcane fields from July to September, lodging prevention is the key to capture the high yield of sugarcane. There are five main measures to prevent lodging in sugarcane:

Sugarcane lodging

First, select wind-resistant and lodging-resistant varieties. Lodging-resistant varieties are characterized by hard cane, strong base, erect growth, not too exuberant growth in the later stage, which is conducive to lodging resistance.

Second, apply sufficient base fertilizer. Sugarcane should apply sufficient base fertilizer, early topdressing, reasonable application of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and no partial application of nitrogen fertilizer, so that the sugarcane seedling stage is strong, the sugarcane plant does not grow too long, and the lodging resistance is improved.

Third, shallow planting in deep ditches and high soil cultivation. The root system of sugarcane grows from the root point at the base of the sugarcane, and the high-culture soil can increase the root belt, how long the sugarcane root, make the sugarcane root deep and stable, enhance the wind resistance and prevent lodging. If the planting ditch is too shallow, it is easy to cause overturning and lodging.

Fourth, peel leaves to prevent lodging. The lower leaves of sugarcane have dried up, and the photosynthetic efficiency of old leaves is low. In the later stage of sugarcane, only 6-7 leaves are needed for each plant. The excess old leaves and withered leaves should be removed to reduce the load of sugarcane, reduce the wind area and prevent lodging.

Fifth, tie sugarcane to prevent lodging. The sugarcane plant is tall. When the sugarcane plant reaches 2 meters high in September, the two rows of sugarcane should be cross-tied into a "human" shape, which can effectively prevent lodging.
