In May, the land of the Central Plains is full of vitality, and the slightly golden wheat fields are endless, with a scene of bumper harvest. The farmers in the fields commented on the gratifying growth of "Xi Nong 979", and it was difficult to hide their joy.

The new variety "Xinong 979", which was cultivated by Professor Wang Hui of Northwest University of Agriculture and Forestry for more than 10 years, has been demonstrated and planted in the Huang-Huai wheat region for three years. It was approved by the state in August last year and began to accelerate its popularization. At present, it has been demonstrated and planted more than 1 million mu in Henan, Guanzhong, northern Anhui, northern Jiangsu, southwest Shandong and other Huang-Huai wheat areas.

In order to do a better job in the demonstration and promotion of "Xinong 979" and accelerate the development of high-quality wheat industry, Northwest University of Agriculture and Forestry and Jinzi seed Group cooperated with the local governments of Luoyang City, Zhumadian City, Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, Woyang City, Anhui Province and other local governments in Henan Province and relevant seed enterprises to hold four large-scale new variety viewing meetings to show the excellent characteristics and planting techniques of "Xinong 979". The production and industrialization development of high quality wheat were discussed. Several viewing meetings were a complete success and achieved the desired results.

Luoyang is the largest of the four viewing events, sponsored by Northwest University of Agriculture and Forestry Science and Technology and the Luoyang government, and held in Yanshi City, Luoyang on May 21. More than 300 people attended, including the Ministry of Agriculture, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the National Wheat improvement Center, Henan Agricultural Department, Henan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Henan Agricultural University, Henan seed Management Station, Henan Grain Bureau, Henan Food Association, Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange, Henan Agricultural Development Bank, Golden Grain Group, Henan city and county agricultural bureaus and seed management stations, CCTV Seven sets and Science and Technology Daily.

He said: "this year, the yield per mu of 20000 mu demonstration field is estimated to be 550kg, and that of high yield field is more than 600kg per mu. After nearly three years of demonstration planting, The masses' evaluation of this variety is: 'low stature, hard stalks, lodging resistance, no disease, many ears, heavy grains, who says well, who is happy, and there is a guarantee of yield per mu.' "

After the on-the-spot observation, a summary and exchange meeting was held in Yanshi Hotel, and the leaders and experts at the meeting discussed deeply and extensively the variety characteristics, planting management, demonstration and extension of "Xinong 979" and the development of high quality wheat industrialization. The participants spoke highly of the excellent characteristics of the variety and fully affirmed the prospect of its promotion.

The reason why "Xinong 979" is favored by the majority of farmers and experts is that this variety has outstanding characteristics that other varieties do not have:

First of all, this variety is a weak winter precocious variety with good cold resistance and freezing tolerance and outstanding precocious maturity. it has achieved an important breakthrough in the combination of winter and early maturity in wheat breeding, and just filled the vacancy of winter precocious varieties in Huang-Huai wheat region. it plays an important role in the rational distribution of wheat varieties and the adjustment of planting structure in Huang-Huai wheat region.

Secondly, the variety realizes the organic combination of high quality and high yield, overcomes the contradiction that high quality varieties are not high yield and high yield varieties are not good quality, and occupies the leading level in the industry. Xinong 979 has strong tillering ability, high panicle rate, medium and large panicle type, and good coordination of three factors of yield. It has a yield potential of 700kg / mu and a yield level of more than 500kg / mu, with a panicle of 40-450000 per mu, 38 grains per ear and a 1000-grain weight of 42m / mu. The average yield per mu in the national regional trial is 510 kg per mu in two years, with a maximum of 680 kg. The grain of this variety is big and full, bright and transparent, and the grain commodity is good. After many years of national multi-point sampling and analysis, the protein content is 14.16%, the wet gluten is 32.34%, the sedimentation value is about 53.2ml, and the stable time is 17.9 Mel 35.1 minutes. The quality reaches the national quality standard of high quality and strong gluten wheat varieties. In the third national high-quality wheat selection in 2005, Xinong 979 was awarded as the national high-quality and strong gluten wheat variety.

Thirdly, the variety realized the combination of multiple resistance, high yield, wide adaptability and stable yield. Xinong 979 is cold-resistant, frost-resistant and lodging-resistant, and has good resistance to panicle sprouting. The results of national disease resistance identification showed that the variety was highly resistant to stripe rust and moderately resistant to scab, sheath blight, leaf rust and slow stem rust. It has good comprehensive resistance and maturity in the field, achieves a good combination of high and stable yield and wide adaptability, and adapts to the planting of high and medium water and fertile land in the vast wheat area in the south of Huang-Huai River. Based on the above excellent characteristics and the demonstration planting situation for three consecutive years, "Xinong 979" has been recognized and welcomed by farmers. Experts generally believe that Xinong 979 is a new wheat variety with outstanding advantages but no serious disadvantages.

At present, the planting proportion of spring varieties in Huang-Huai wheat region is too large, and the distribution of varieties is unreasonable, resulting in a certain degree of wheat yield reduction due to low temperature and freezing injury in winter and spring every year. Popularizing and utilizing Xinong 979, a new wheat variety with weak winter, cold resistance and early maturity, high yield and high quality, is of great significance to the rational distribution of wheat varieties, further stabilize and improve wheat yield and quality, and promote the development of high quality wheat industrialization in Huang-Huai wheat region.
