The common animals we see every day, such as pigs, chickens, dogs and fish, generally contain two sets of genetic vectors-chromosomes, which are genetically called diploids. Normal sexual reproduction is the process of diploid replication. Fish, like other animals, has to go through the process of breeding and reproducing in its life. In pond culture, when fish grow and mature, the nutrients absorbed from feed should be used to develop their gonads, that is, testis or ovaries. During this period, physical growth stagnates, which is disadvantageous for us to obtain the best culture benefits. During the period of spawning and spawning, the maternal color of some fish becomes darker and dull, so its value as a commercial fish will be reduced. In addition, we also hope that small fish with high value can grow bigger. Modern biotechnology makes it possible to solve these problems. The scientific and technological personnel of the Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute have used fish genome manipulation techniques to transform diploid small, high-quality fish, a pond lice (scientific name catfish), into triploid fish. This artificial triploid pond lice fish grows 28% faster than natural diploid pond lice fish, with uniform individuals, bright body color, gonadal hypoplasia or hypoplasia, and the feed is used for fish growth and weight gain, and the commercial quality of cultivated fish is superior to that of diploid fish. The fish is now in pilot production and is expected to be available to farmers in the near future.

The culture method of artificial triploid pond lice is the same as that of soil pond lice, and the feed is exactly the same. Generally 3-5 cm size of fish fry can be placed in the pond, early can be appropriate use of better feed, such as natural bait "red worm", peanut bran, eel material mixed with wheat flour, so that fish fry grow as soon as possible and enter the rapid growth stage. If the pond in which the fry is released is pre-cultivated with abundant "water" (zooplankton), the survival rate of the fry will be higher. In the process of culture, we should pay attention to the change of pond water quality, replenish new water in time, maintain good water quality and reduce the occurrence of diseases.

The pond that raises triploid pond lice fish need not be too big, 200m2 to 2000 sq m (3 mu), can raise appropriate amount of big head fish (bighead carp), flat fish (silver carp), tilapia, etc., make full use of the productivity of the water body.

According to the experiment, the disease resistance of triploid pond lice was stronger than that of diploid, and the incidence of disease was lower under the same feeding conditions, especially in the seedling stage and 50g body weight. If fish disease occurs, there is no need to worry, according to the usual diploid pond lice treatment and drugs can be treated. But the important thing is to be careful in peacetime management, observe frequently, replenish new water in a timely manner, maintain a good environment, and regularly or irregularly mix germicides in feed for prevention, prevention is more important than treatment.

In short, the economic benefit of raising triploid pond lice is certainly much higher than that of ordinary soil pond lice.
