Since 1988, we have investigated the wild variety resources and artificial cultivation techniques of Pinellia ternata in Yimeng Mountain area. in the course of investigation and research for many years, we have found a single plant of Pinellia ternata which can be pollinated and fruited under wild conditions. after artificial domestication and cultivation, a 1.5g Pinellia ternata tuber can produce 40 seeds and 50 seeds a year. Thus, the problems of low natural seed setting rate and five kinds of available production of Pinellia ternata were solved, and a way was explored to improve the reproduction rate of Pinellia ternata.

1 Botanical characteristics

The height of the plant is about 10cm, the adult leaves are 3-lobed, the leaves are oval, and the leaves of the small plant are 1 oval and single leaf, which is suitable for growing on fertile land. The inflorescence of the single plant was drawn out after emergence at the beginning of April, and each flower ear could bear 13-20 seeds. After that, each leaf is accompanied by 1 inflorescence. A 1.5 g tuber can produce 4-6 panicles per year, with 40-50 seeds and a reproduction rate of 1 ∶-40-50, which is more than 10 times higher than that of bulbs and tubers of Pinellia ternata.

(2) Utilization prospect

The discovery of wild self-breeding fruiting plants of Pinellia ternata has created conditions for improving the reproduction rate of Pinellia ternata and using seeds for field cultivation. It is of great significance to expand the planting area, increase the yield of Pinellia ternata and meet the medicinal needs.

2.1 establish breeding fields and reproduce more Pinellia ternata seeds that can bear fruit under natural conditions as soon as possible.

2.2 artificial pollination was carried out to improve the seed setting rate.

2.3 pesticides are banned in the field during the flowering period of Pinellia ternata to facilitate the pollination of insects.

2.4 during the flowering period of Pinellia ternata, field management should be strengthened to ensure sufficient soil moisture so as to improve the seed setting rate.
