Courtyard cultivation of national orchid

Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Many orchid farmers use courtyard as orchid field for orchid cultivation, which is close to the ecological environment of the original place of orchid, which is conducive to the growth and development of orchid plants. The deficiency is that it is not easy to master light, temperature, water and wind, and is vulnerable to natural disasters and diseases and insect pests, which restricts the growth of orchid plants to a certain extent. Therefore, we should focus on solving the following key problems: light orchids are semi-shady plants, not without sunlight, not even if the sun is strong. Full light is needed in winter and spring, and strong light is needed in summer and autumn. In the south of the courtyard, the orchid plant will be moved to the front of the house in winter and spring, and in summer.

Many orchid farmers use courtyard as orchid field for orchid cultivation, which is close to the ecological environment of the original place of orchid, which is conducive to the growth and development of orchid plants. The deficiency is that it is not easy to master light, temperature, water and wind, and is vulnerable to natural disasters and diseases and insect pests, which restricts the growth of orchid plants to a certain extent. Therefore, we should focus on solving the following key issues:

Light orchids are semi-shaded plants, which can't do without sunlight, even if the sun is strong. Full light is needed in winter and spring, and strong light is needed in summer and autumn. To the south of the courtyard, the orchid plant will be moved to the front of the house in winter and spring, and to the foot of the south wall in summer and autumn. To the north, winter and spring move to the foot of the north wall, summer and autumn move to the door. In summer and autumn, sunshade nets must be used to block the light, and the shade should be not less than 70%. If conditions exist, climbing plants such as grapes, towel gourd and bergamot can be planted in the courtyard in summer, which can shade orchids, cool down, and eat fresh melons and fruits.

The suitable temperature for orchid growth is 15-25 ℃. Due to cold snap, snow and frost in winter and spring, the temperature can drop to many degrees below zero; in summer and autumn, the high temperature can reach about 35 ℃ due to strong light, wall and ground radiation, which is a great threat to orchid plants. In summer, in addition to taking shade, should often spray to the orchid plant, sprinkle water to the ground; set up a pool, tank or bucket near the orchid plant. If there is a sink or tray under the orchid basin, the cooling effect is better. In winter, because there is no shelter at the upper end of the courtyard and the temperature is extremely low, it is best to move the orchid indoors for the winter; if unconditional, you can move to a corner of the courtyard leeward to the sun, and use plastic film to build a temporary greenhouse. If the quantity is small, it can also be covered with double-layer film.

Wind due to the walls around the courtyard, or even in the high-rise buildings, the ventilation condition is very poor, it is not easy to dissipate heat in summer; in case of continuous rain, the ground and plant materials are wet and not easy to dry. In this regard, on the one hand, we should support bricks under the orchid basin to enlarge the distance between basins and increase ventilation; on the other hand, when the air is muggy in midsummer, use electric fans to help dissipate heat. The power of the fan depends on the number of orchid pots. If the orchid pot is put on the orchid rack, the ventilation effect is better.

Orchid cultivation in the courtyard of diseases and pests is more vulnerable to diseases and insect pests. Due to rain and wet ground, it is most likely to suffer from anthracnose and root rot. Before the arrival of the rainy season, fungicides such as carbendazim, thiophanate and Dysen zinc should be sprayed with orchid plants, orchid pots and the whole orchid farm for prevention; these drugs can also be sprayed at the initial stage of the disease to control the disease. The main pest is the shell insect, which can be killed artificially and sprayed with omethoate or fenitrothion during the larval incubation period. In addition, the animals on the ground, such as snails, slugs, thrips and mice, are all animals that endanger orchids and must be effectively prevented.
