Cut chrysanthemum can usually be sent directly to the flower market without packaging in the case of short transportation distance or less transportation, but long-distance transportation, especially transnational cut flower export, must be packed. The packaging of cut chrysanthemum follows the general principles of cut flower packaging:

① protects the product from mechanical damage and tries to keep it intact or scratch-free.

② allows heat exchange and cannot be completely enclosed.

③ eliminated the heat in the field in time and tried to reduce the respiratory intensity.

The ④ packing box should be strong enough to withstand normal handling and stacking.

⑤ boxes are printed with trademarks, instructions or how to use them.

The commonly used packaging materials are fiberboard boxes, wooden cases, reinforced plywood cartons, cartons, plastic bags and so on. In the past, wood products were used for packaging. Because plastic products are light in weight and can be reused, all kinds of plastic packaging have been widely used in recent years. At present, cartons are mainly used in our country. The dimensions of cartons are generally 110 cm long, 35 cm wide and 15 cm high. Such a carton can hold 100 flowers, each 10 bundles into a bundle, the bottom into 5 bunches, another U-shaped cardboard, another 5 bundles in the opposite direction, and then seal the carton. This is beneficial to the ventilation in the carton. The size standardization of the packing box is very important, the uniform specification can facilitate the mechanized loading and unloading and transportation, load neatly and stably, and reduce the operation cost. Wrap the flowers in tissue paper every 5 bundles to prevent petals from rubbing against the box wall. At present, manual handling is still the main method in the process of transportation. if the weight is more than 30 kg, it is easy to be injured in the process of handling, and convenient calculation should be taken into account at the same time, so it is best to use the specification of 100 pieces per box and no more than 200 branches at most. In general, in long-distance transportation (more than 1 day), it is best to use refrigerated trucks or refrigerated containers to take into account the exothermic breathing of cut flowers.

Now, advanced foreign countries have used automatic screening machines and binding machines to assist in packaging: remove the lower leaves, cut them according to the required length, classify them according to weight, and then bind them, which can handle 1500 to 1700 cut flowers per hour. At present, most of the work is still done manually in our country.
