Remarkable achievements have been made in the research and development of fine varieties of Qingyuan red deer in Fushun, Liaoning Province.
Qingyuan red deer is a scientific and technological project jointly researched and developed by the Special products Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Fushun Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It was approved by the National Livestock and Poultry Variety Committee in December 2002 and approved as a new national livestock and poultry breed by the Ministry of Agriculture in February 2003. It won the first prize of scientific and technological progress in Fushun in 2003 and the second prize of scientific and technological progress in Liaoning Province in 2004. Fushun Agricultural Science Research Institute, as one of the main units to accomplish this scientific and technological achievement, after several years of unremitting efforts, built a breeding base for improved breeds of Qingyuan red deer, with nearly 100 fine pure breeding deer of Qingyuan red deer. Breeding deer 800 (fresh antler yield 21 kg), 0-12 (three saw fresh antler yield 18.2 kg) as the production of thin tube frozen semen male deer, industry insiders known as Qingyuan red deer as "deer king".
In order to solve the outstanding contradiction between the demand for excellent breeding deer and the shortage of provenance, Fushun Academy of Agricultural Sciences cooperated with the Special products Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences to carry out the research on artificial insemination of Qingyuan red deer. After more than 8 years of research, we have found out the physiological characteristics of the original red deer semen and solved many problems in the artificial insemination technology of Qingyuan red deer. Tested by the Product Supervision, Inspection and testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, the improved buck with thin tube frozen semen has stable genetic performance and excellent deer breeds.
In the aspect of deep processing of pilose antler products, the high purity processing and extraction of Qingyuan high quality red deer antler was carried out by using freeze drying, ultra low temperature micro powder, ultrasonic cracking and low temperature vacuum concentration technology. a complete range of protein content and amino acids are obtained, which are rich in nutritive active substances, which play an important role in promoting the development of human nutrition and health care and medical and pharmaceutical industry. The construction of deer production base and the preliminary construction of deer product processing base have been completed. In 2007, the high-tech industrialization demonstration project of the State Science and Technology Commission will be declared, which will play a key role in the industrialization development of Qingyuan red deer.

The method of feeding straw powder to deer is very simple. Corn straw, bean straw, rice straw, wheat straw, peanut seedlings and dried leaves are ground into powder by a straw powder machine.
