At the tea work conference of Hunan Province held on March 26-27, participants frequently mentioned a characteristic tea variety-Taoyuan Daye.

It is understood that Taoyuan Daye is derived from wild Daye tea in the mountains of Lujiachong, Taipingpu Township, Taoyuan County. In 1969, senior agronomist Lu Wanjun and others carried out breeding, breeding and experimental demonstration of wild Daye tea. The selected varieties were identified by scientific and technological achievements in 1989 and approved by Hunan crop Variety approval Committee in 1992. This variety has the advantages of hypertrophy, high yield, high quality, strong stress resistance and rich in tea polyphenols and catechins, so it is named "Taoyuan Daye".

"Taoyuan Daye is the only large-leaf tea variety that can grow normally and perform well in comprehensive characters in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. it is a good raw material for green tea, black tea and other kinds of tea." Yang Yang, researcher of Provincial Tea Research Institute, evaluated.

At the tea garden in Songyangping Village, Chaanpu Town, Taoyuan County, Tang Honghe, a branch of the village, told reporters that the varieties of Taoyuan big leaves planted in the village could be put into production in the third year, and the fresh leaves of farmers could be sold to 70,000yuan / kg. During the tea-picking period, the labor wage is 50 yuan / day, dry tea can be produced per mu of 400kg, and the per capita annual tea income can reach 5000 yuan.

Tao Dacheng, president of the Taoyuan Tea Industry Association, said: "Taoyuan leaves have good freeze resistance, and their performance in this year's severe ice disaster is basically unaffected, and it is deeply loved by Taoyuan tea farmers."

At present, the province's Taoyuan leaf promotion area has reached more than 50,000 mu, distributed in Changsha, Shimen, Anhua, Pingjiang, Guzhang and other counties. Cao Wencheng, president of the Provincial Tea Association, calculated that if the province's existing 1.4 million mu tea garden area is planted with Taoyuan leaves, then the yield will at least double.

It is reported that in December 2005, Taoyuan Wild Tea King, made from Taoyuan leaves, has been protected by National Geographic indication products.
