Diagnosis and treatment of canine distemper in raccoon dogs

1 morbidity

The beetles and foxes raised in the Bayanhot special breeding farm in Alashan Zuoqi began to get sick on March 11, 2002. A total of 230 beetles and 110 foxes were fed in the farm, of which 107 were sick, the morbidity was 46.52%, and 84 died, accounting for 78.5% of the total number of cases. The fox didn't get sick.

2 clinical symptoms

In the early stage of the disease, the body temperature increased, slight anorexia and conjunctivitis occurred in some cases. Followed by depression, cough, dyspnea, auscultation in the throat, harsh breathing sounds, dry rales. Some cases also have neurological symptoms such as collision, running and turning, and the masseter muscles have rhythmic tremors, and eventually die because of neurological disorders and extreme emaciation. Most cases have symptoms of dysentery and vomiting.

3The change of dissection.

Local congestion, edema and interstitial pneumonia of the lung, some accompanied with necrotizing bronchitis and bronchiolitis, mostly catarrhal gastroenteritis, diarrhea and dysentery. The transmission was confirmed according to the comprehensive diagnosis of epidemiological investigation, clinical symptoms, pathological autopsy changes and laboratory tests.

The disease is raccoon dog distemper.

4 Prevention and treatment

The main results were as follows: (1) the serum of canine distemper high immunity serum or whole blood of recovered adult dogs were subcutaneously or intravenously injected with 2~3ml/kg body weight and whole blood 4~6ml/kg body weight for 3 ~ 4 days.

(2) antiviral injections such as ribavirin and interferon were used.

(3) intravenous infusion of compound normal saline, glucose, vitamin C and antibiotics.

(4) the breeding and management equipment of sick raccoon dogs should be disinfected. 3% bleach solution can be used for kennel disinfection; utensils can be boiled and disinfected with 2%NaOH; dead raccoon dogs should be buried or burned and should not be thrown at will.
