What kind of bacteria is Streptococcus suis?
Streptococcus suis belongs to Streptococcus suis. Streptococcus suis is round or oval in shape, smaller than 2.0mm in diameter, generally chain-shaped or arranged in pairs, and Gram-positive staining. The colony is small and gray-white and transparent. Most pathogenic strains have the ability of hemolysis.
Streptococcus suis has 35 serotypes (1: 34, 1: 2) and some strains that cannot be typed. Among them, four serotypes 1, 2, 7 and 9 were highly pathogenic. Lysozyme release protein (MRP) and extracellular protein factor (EF) are two important virulence factors of Streptococcus suis type 2.
