How to cultivate a single multicolor dahlia?
A multicolored dahlia can be grown by grafting. selecting a high-quality root tuber which is fully developed, disease-free and does not have buds as a grafting mother plant, selecting a branch which is uniform in thickness and length and has terminal buds as a scion according to different flower color varieties, and cutting into duckbill shape. Cut on the mother plant, insert the scion quickly, the cambium must be aligned with each other, then tie it tightly with a tie or glue it with tape, and then bury the root in fine sand to keep it wet. When the scion begins to grow, transplant it to the pot or flower bed, strengthen fertilizer and water management, and timely carry out maintenance management such as topping, bud wiping, support and shaping construction. In this way, we can cultivate dahlias with beautiful plant shape, many colors and gorgeous flowers.
How to make dahlia multicolored
It is absolutely impossible to buy only one dahlia from the market and achieve multicolour per plant. So the best way to do that is to grow multicolored dahlias by grafting. The method was simple:
selective mother plant
First, select the full disease-free, and without buds of high-quality root tuber as the mother of grafting. The selection of the mother is very important. If you choose a diseased plant, the root tuber will not grow, let alone graft, you will not see anything.
selecting scion
According to different flower varieties, choose stout. Scions of roughly the same length, preferably two of each color, so as not to survive due to environmental influences when grafting.
grafting
Cut the branches into duckbill shapes, cut a knife from the mother, quickly insert the scion, the cambium must be aligned with each other, then bind tightly with tie tape, or bond the joint with adhesive tape, and then bury the root tuber in fine sand to keep it wet. After sand culture, the scion is transplanted into a pot or flower bed when the scion begins to grow after the interface is healed.
After grafting, strengthen fertilizer and water management, timely carry out maintenance management such as topping, bud wiping, support and shaping pruning. In this way, a cluster of beautiful, colorful and gorgeous dahlias can be cultivated.

Dahlia is native to Mexico's tropical plateau at an altitude of 1,500 meters. It is neither cold-resistant nor heat-resistant. The climate there is warm and cool, and there is a period of low temperature for dormancy. Dahlia in China Liaoning, Jilin and other places suitable climate, good growth. The Yangtze River valley and Jiangnan area are also quite planted.
> Cultivation techniques
Root division propagation: dahlia root neck like root tuber as a propagule, in the division must have part of the root neck and root tuber, otherwise can not germinate new plants. In order to facilitate reproduction, often pre-buried roots for germination, to be on the root neck of the adventitious buds germinate after the re-division planting. The method of root division is simple and easy, with high survival rate and strong seedlings, but the number of reproductive plants is limited.
Cuttage propagation: Dahlia is the main propagation method, propagation coefficient is large, generally in early spring, summer and autumn can also be, in March to April in the greenhouse or hotbed to defend the highest survival rate. Cuttings are taken from germinated root tubers, and when a pair of leaves at the base of the bud are unfolded, cuttings can be stripped from the base. Can also leave more than one section of the base of the new bud cut, and then take the axillary bud with the growth of the bud, so that more cuttings can be obtained. Spring seedlings grow fully in summer and autumn, and they can bloom in the same year. From June to early August, shoots can be taken from self-growing plants for summer transplanting, but the survival rate is lower than that of spring transplanting. From September to October, the survival rate of cuttings is lower than that of spring, but higher than that of summer transplanting. Sandy loam soil plus a small amount of moldy soil or peat is suitable for transplanting soil.
Seed propagation: limited to flowerbed varieties and breeding applications. Summer due to damp heat and poor fruit, so the seeds are mostly picked from autumn after maturity. Double-petaled varieties are not easy to obtain seeds, so artificial pollination is necessary. Sowing is generally carried out in a seeding box, at about 20 degrees Celsius, sprouting and sprouting in 4 ~ 5 days, planting after true leaves grow out, and flowering after 1 ~ 2 years.
Cultivation and management: Dahlia stem tall and juicy soft, to set up pillars, to break the wind, and dwarf varieties are not necessary. Watering should master the principle of dry re-watering. After continuous cloudy days in summer, it suddenly becomes sunny. Water should be sprayed to the ground and leaves in time to cool down, otherwise the leaves will be scorched and withered. When there is no rain in the summer, in addition to watering every day, water should also be sprayed to cool down. Apply liquid fertilizer every 10 days after budding until the buds are transparent. Before frost, leave 10 ~ 15 cm root neck, cut off branches and leaves, dig up root tuber, dry on site for 1 ~ 2 days, and store it indoors with dry sand. The temperature of the storage room is about 5° C.
Potted dahlias are best replaced several times. Choose a shallow basin with a large mouth surface, and at the same time dig the drainage hole at the bottom of the basin as large as possible, and pad a layer of broken tiles as a drainage layer below. The culture soil must contain half sand. The last pot change needs to apply enough base fertilizer to supply sufficient nutrients, and other management is planted in the same place. Cut flowers with dahlia, cultivation points planted in the same place, plant spacing 50 ~ 100 cm, growth season half a month topdressing liquid fertilizer, appropriate topping, more reserved lateral branches.
